Print Charging Software

I have Macs and PC's on my network and I am looking for a Print charging package that works on both platforms.

any ideas?

We use Papercut NG here. Works great with our AD accounts from Win/OSX clients. ITS provide us with a licence/support that provides all software upgrades.

Pcounter will do this too.

We use PaperCut MF here, licensed via Annodata who get it via Selectec. Easy to use, quick to set up, has lots of advanced features, and integrates with most modern copiers.

Another vote for PaperCut. We've run NG and MF from about 2006/2007. It works really well and is simple to set up.

Print Manager Plus is what we use, as long as you print from your macs via a windows based print server that has the server software seems all is well so it says in the handbook

Another vote for papercut, been using it for a few months, it works great and it really easy to setup and use.

+1 Papercut. Used pcounter and print manager plus, Papercut is worlds apart.

Pcounter now has a native mac installer for local tools if required, but otherwise simple to use and lots of options.

Does Pcounter still install it's own port for each printer? I never got on with that

Yes, but this has been simplified, and these are more for communication so registry based.

 

The port monitor setup is simpler, with all monitors merged together. There is now unofficial support for GDI devices with generally good success.

 

SNMP support is better, and you can use a mass migration tool to change ports for TCP/IP or LPR onto Pcounter ports.

 

There is a rollback option, and it's only on rare occasions there will be an output queue required.

There's no client as such, I don't think, it's all done through a web page. This is explained in the user guide I believe.

It's included in the latest release under a folder called client....

 

Also, It's used to require the Pro version, now it's included as standard.

We use papercut here too, but I'd like to know how you logisticvally manage the print credit; do youy charge the students and staff ex amnount?

 

We've been using for alsmot a year now and we haven't started charging the students yet, and I am now asked to do so.

 

Any help would be appreciated.

What level of education are you involved in? Secondary/College/Uni? Visitors or part time courses?
