school Posted February 8, 2011 Posted February 8, 2011 Hi Guy's, OK so the school are wanting a complete new fresh website designing. I am guessing everyone now is going to say use joomla for it? OK I have no experience with joomla but going to have a play around with it... Is there anywhere I can get free templates which are suitable for Primary Schools? Something bright, nicely presented etc. Thanks in advance!

Hightower Posted February 8, 2011 Posted February 8, 2011 We use Joomla here, and I think it suits us, but Wordpress is VERY easy to use, and has some great plugins - perhaps take a look at that because there's great themes kicking about for it too.
SimpleSi Posted February 8, 2011 Posted February 8, 2011 Joomla can be a bit hard to learn and setup if you've never dabbled with sql database driven cms but the edugeek joomla package practically does it all for you - you just have to get your hosting details - ftp up a load of files and then run it and it installs itself as long as you know sql database names/passwords/hostname. Once its set up, its quite easy to configure it so that teachers can just upload articles with pcitures and those articles just appear in the right place. So effort on your part leads to ease of use on theirs. regards simon

jmair Posted February 8, 2011 Posted February 8, 2011 Joomla has been great for us to quickly update the site in several sections without any additional software. The advantage of haveing a large community for support and addons is also a perk. But I have seen many district sites that aren't very dynamic (with daily updates) and as such they can use anything. So I agree with WebMan, it comes down to what you need and what kind of time you're willing to invest in learning. I still vote Joomla/Wordpress/Drupral though.. All great stuff imo.

I just want something that is kind of in your face, looks good, child friendly (bright, colourful etc) whilst at the same time easy to update for me or teaching staff... Joomla I think is probably best however just trying to get my head around it that is proving the difficult bit!! Johnathon
