Speed Camera Revenge

Never been done for speeding, in the UK anyway, however I have in Oz which is a differnet matter, they hide the bloody things over there! :cussing:

 

So when I saw this on another forum I had to say...YEEESSS!

Quite lucky here in County Durham Police Chief constable doesn't believe in speed cameras (fixed ones anyway) plus he doesn't have the man power or budget to implement. I still drive carefully though so hence a clean license.

Plenty of cameras in Lancashire. especially my home town Blackpool. Theres a camera on every main road pretty much! Went past two speed traps yesterday on my bike on the same stretch of road on the way to Devils Bridge :\

@ ChrisH - Plenty here in Lincolnshire as well. And so far (touch wood) a clean licence for me at the moment. They are starting to appear everywhere and I have a 70 mile round trip everyday to work and tend to see on average 2 Scamera Vans at the side of the road as well.

Its not bad where I live now. Theres 2 gatsos either side of town and most of the time you will do well to speed past them due to the roads being very busy. Never seen a camera van in town but they like to sit on the M65 bridges. Last time my dad got done the van was parked behind a bush in a field on the A483 Preston road!!!

The latest "hide the van" trick around here is the colour. They have started using yellow renault vans and putting a speed camera symbal the size of a postage stamp (Perhaps a slight exageration there) somewhere on it, maybe underneath to comply with the signage rules.

I got 13/19 on it, and ChrisH, I've seen them on the M62 and the cameras around that area, bloody cameras grrrrr

Last time my dad got done the van was parked behind a bush in a field on the A483 Preston road!!!

 

They have to be on the 'Public Highway' .

 

A few years ago, in our village the police where trying out a new type speed camera in one of the first vans for speed camera's in Derbyshire, they where parked on the forecourt of our local filling station ( private land).

I was not very popular when in conversation with the policeman I told him he could not prosecute all the 80 drivers for speeding because he was parked on private land .

Next time he came into my shop he told me I was right.

PS. Just found out there in a new system that being tried out in some parts of the country .

It logs your vehicle registration, then a long way down the same road (in Miles) they take your vehicle reg number again and give you a ticket if your average speed was above the speed limit.

[PS. Just found out there in a new system that being tried out in some parts of the country .

Mike, that system is called SPECS Info on Specs from ABD.org.uk have some information on it. They are often, but not exclusivly found on motorways.

I'm going to heretical here in most people's eyes ...

 

I support speed cameras.

 

I hate speeding drivers.

 

I detest those who think that the speed limits are not important and that they are better drivers than everyone else, so they can handle it.

 

Then again, I was hit by a car when 10 years old ... it was going just over 50 in a 30 area and I am considered the freak victim as I survived. I have been knocked of my bike more times than I care to think about ... but most of all I have assisted at some major RTCs whilst I was in the army ... and every single one was linked to speed ... and it is no fun walking up and down the M3 looking for body parts.

 

Then again ... I have been pulled over twice for speeding. Once on my bike (35 in a 30 area ... and I was overtaking a car going around 20) and the other time I was doing 38 in a 40 area ... and had to argue with the copper who claimed it was a 30 zone.

 

The other thing that annoys me other than people who speed is cops who speed and break the rules of the road (mobiles whilst driving, not indicating, speeding to get back to the office to get their donuts ... you get the idea!)

I have to say that in roadworks, I'm all in favour of speed control. Can you imagine how 'king scary it would be working in a hole in the carriagway with nutters flying past at 60, 70, 80+ mph?

I agree with the roadworks ones for the safety of the workers etc, but what I hate is the fact that on some works they reduce the limit from 70 to 30 or 40 up to 2 or 3 miles ahead of the works! Yes not everyone is down to 30 within yards of the 30 starting, but it really really annoys me that we need such a great distance before the actual works start, and then they often seem to do the same at the end of the works! Very Annoying!
