Anyone for Airsoft?

Recently, I have found myself a new hobby through some real life friends. It's called Airsoft. The basic idea is similar to paintball, but with much more emphasis on realism. Airsoft players use weapons that are generally repicas of real steel firearms that shoot small plastic ball bearings. Also there's a lot of attention to detail on the authenticity of the other kit/clothing. Its also a lot cheaper than paintball.

 

The game itself is played on various sites all over the country. I am I club member at a new site near Manchester. Most Sundays we play simple skirmishes and scenarios, depending on how many people show up.

I used to have quite the airsoft gun collection.Sold the lot when I knew my daughter was coming along! I am a massive fan of it

Yeah this is a fantastic game! all of you COD Junkies would probably love it

 

Geoff dragged me along and to be honest I am so glad he did, I never actually heard of it before but it's something I've wanted to get back into i.e. running round a field getting dirty and blah! I'm going to keep going, it gives me something to do on a Sunday and keeps me fit

 

Be nice to see some more edugeek's around!

This place has not long opened up round the corner from our office. There was talk of having an evening there but not sure what ever happened about that. They have just moved into an old warehouse but I know quite a few people that go and say its a good time.

One thing I'm confused on (it doesnt take much!) is how this works- obviously in paintball it's pretty obvious when you've been shot, is it trust based that if you feel yourself get hit you walk and is it one shot kill?

If you get shot, you put your hands up and shout 'hit'. Otherwise the pain continues. Marshals are onhand if you think someone isn't taking their hits.

I've actually played Airsoft in an old school, and an old shopping centre, and an old block of flats with a few more doors knocked through...

 

CQB can get pretty hectic with more that it's fair share of injuries...

 

I imagine in paintball some of those bruises can be very nasty - whereas in airsoft I KNOW blood gets drawn...

I've seen some paintball injuries talk about huge holes.

Back before I became a school tech I worked as a trainee gunsmith in a sporting goods store. Basically, fixing air-rifles/pistols and lots of airsoft. Found with a small mod a semi auto gas Uzi could be made full auto Also modified a paintball gun to fire 6mm BBs. Recorded about 800fps... ouchy.

I used to visit Epsom for CQB. Dark tunnels filled with smoke by the end of the skirmish. Wanting to get back into it but having a difficult time getting in tocuh to book. Wanting to get a shotty for it since I will never shoot beyond a few feet but it's play regular and get licenced or buy a gun that has a 2-tone cartoon colour scheme (which wouldn't be so bad if it wasn't for the lack of guarantee on the paint job quality).

Just enquired about this at our local site. The guy says just to show up when I have a Sunday free (play football most Sundays).

 

Wish there was a local Saturday group, because they all seem to be Sundays.
