elsiegee40 Posted September 1, 2010 Posted September 1, 2010 1. Install something on the Bursar's new PC for Teacher's Pensions 2. Threaten printers in IT Suite 3. Staff password resets (I might as well plan for them) 4. Create a few new pupil accounts 5. Thump printers in IT Suite 6. Staff password resets 7. Do the How to login/e-Safety/ Data Protection thing with a new teacher 8. Throw IT Suite Printers out of window 9. Staff password resets 10. About a billion other things that the other staff failed to put on the list of holiday jobs for me, all of which are needed by Monday and none of which are currently on my list. 11. Remember there's no budget to replace IT Suite printers 12. Password resets
mdrabble Posted September 1, 2010 Author Posted September 1, 2010 Dang!!! No budget (which I am use to as I didnt have one last year either) so I have to magic a new PC from thin air!
3s-gtech Posted September 1, 2010 Posted September 1, 2010 Clean up the HP packaging from the new IT suite, and all the junk equipment I've accumulated. Gonna need a bigger skip!

webman Posted September 1, 2010 Posted September 1, 2010 Set up 4 new computers, rename staff accounts of those who have married and complete a minor website update. Not sure I'll get it all done before next Tuesday
Hightower Posted September 1, 2010 Posted September 1, 2010 I'm quite pleased with how I've getten through my summer jobs. I have about 10 computers left to build, then walk around and turn everything on so every computer picks up the hotfixes (and SP3) that I've installed over summer. Couple of 5 minutes odd-jobs here and there, and then I think I'll take a look at the website/moodle/backup schema/esxi and do minor updates/make sure everything is working properly. Hoping to put in a holiday on Friday as well as I'm heading over to the lakes with the tent and the missus.
mdrabble Posted September 1, 2010 Author Posted September 1, 2010 3 laptops left to build and RM's CC3SP3 update has not helped either!!! My business manager has just treated me to the biggest cream filled lemon bun i have seen in years!! She even made me a coffee to go with it Nice to know my efforts have been rewarded (yes I am easy to please lol)
soveryapt Posted September 1, 2010 Posted September 1, 2010 ceiling mount 2 projectors and whiteboards Ceiling Mounted Whiteboards? Is this a new thing? lol .. For me, I've got to go round and tidy up bits, put back together a classroom that was out of bounds due to a broken hot water pipe bringing down some previously examined and deemed to be safe Asbestos Panels so that area needed a full clear up (fun). Then I've got new staff laptops to image (and indeed older staff laptops to create images for) Then arrange for an ethical company to come and collect all the old machines at somepoint very soon (preferable before the IT and Art Teachers kill me .. lol)
mdrabble Posted September 1, 2010 Author Posted September 1, 2010 Ceiling Mounted Whiteboards? Is this a new thing? lol .. I'm trying to introduce new and novel ways of using them, not to mention a good way getting people to exercise, either climb up and down ladders (if they have had ladder training and all the proper risk assessments have been done) or by jumping up and down lol

3s-gtech Posted September 1, 2010 Posted September 1, 2010 Just running round upgrading all staff PCs to 1GB of RAM today, going to make a huge difference to SIMS use, the computers are well up to it otherwise.
Rydra Posted September 1, 2010 Posted September 1, 2010 I got a phone call on sunday asking if I'd come in over the weekend and change the projector bulb. I said no, it was half way through the day and I had plans and a dinner to goto... I came in yesterday to find someone's son came in and went up the 20ft ladder and did it instead.... I'd complain about it, but since the person who arranged it was the head, I think it might be a lost cause!
Chris_ Posted September 1, 2010 Posted September 1, 2010 I think I need some more days!! Build about 75 workstations onto the CC4 network Make restore images of about 100 workstations Build various packages Reset user passwords Update the inventory Various other tasks that I've forgotten
bodminman Posted September 1, 2010 Posted September 1, 2010 Loads left to do to be honest! Although I went home on Friday last thinking all was sorted but as per usually, the teachers arrive on site after x amount of weeks off and expect you to do another x amount of weeks work 72hours before the start of term. Typical! Eg: We asked for their laptops to be handed in during the summer break for updates and if they couldn;t get them to us before, then they should get them to us during the first few weeks of the hols otherwise if they leave til last minute, they will have to leave the lappies with us and we'll do them as soon as. You know what's coming next don't you!?!?! Today/yesterday, here's my laptop can I come and get it in half an hour etc etc etc. YES, I will drop everything I'm doing because you are ready to let me serve you oh great one(s)! 'effin' joke!
clareq Posted September 1, 2010 Posted September 1, 2010 About 15 staff laptops, not handed in in July, left to rebuild. Various bits of testing that applications have installed correctly. About 100 staff pen drives to encrypt. Oh and staff came back yesterday, pupils today!
CESIL Posted September 1, 2010 Posted September 1, 2010 Since I am laid off over the holidays I have to do all my new term stuff on Monday...at least the kids are not in until Tuesday!
john Posted September 1, 2010 Posted September 1, 2010 Lets see.... Printers Printers Printers Printers Printers oh and Printers (yes you guessed it Printers + Windows 7 = chaos) As well as get some PCs imaged (I think were down to about 30 to go now) Finish updates for the MIS Tidy the entire building (as ive got heaps of stuff in every possible space at present as its been a mega summer schedule!) Create all the new users (staff included) Sleep and rest for the chaos on Monday - IE Entire new Network, All reset passwords for every child in the place etc
rad Posted September 1, 2010 Posted September 1, 2010 what have we left to do, well with 0 days left, (kids return tomorrow) we have 35 computers to unbox, 30 set up but not yet built. 2 projectors/smartboards to go on a wall and err updates to roll out. Is it our fault, no cos building works and failed deliveries kept us behind.
witch Posted September 1, 2010 Posted September 1, 2010 Was back today - kids tomorrow - thought I would have time to check everything......but it turns out the no member of staff could access their docs over the summer (offline file synchronisation) since we upgraded to Server2008R2. (any ideas, anyone?) And I tried to install some programs but the installer kept telling me that I was installing Starting French - which I wasn't - and told me I couldnt access the program. This happened on three different machines! AND I have to delete the old year 8 email addys (My boss said he'd done it) and the inventory - as well as getting rid of some kit which was SUPPOSED to go in the summer. That's just one school. Tomorrow I go to the training day at the other one - what's the betting that similar things happen
leco Posted September 1, 2010 Posted September 1, 2010 Still on the to do list: Create a master and image 20 pupil laptops. Create a master and image 22 desktops, and replace in classrooms and ICT suite. Upgrade the head's computer to Windows 7. Issues still to be resolved: Switches not seeing the network, wireless access points disconnected or reverted to defaults, so will need to reset. Training day today but pupils back tomorrow - is it half-term yet?
john Posted September 1, 2010 Posted September 1, 2010 oooh yeh I missed off my list we have an entire IT Room to fit and cable still, that is down to the roofers fault for STILL not being finished! GRRRRRR Never mind we have got 2 weeks into term to do it which is better. Also have all the mandatory profile shizzle to make still for the kids, at least they are off until Monday so ive got all weekend to sort that out! Still need to finish unplugging all the old Wireless APs as well as we are done with our old wireless network for now.
leco Posted September 1, 2010 Posted September 1, 2010 Thanks John you've reminded me that I still need to create all the pupils and their mandatory thingies:(
