witch Posted June 30, 2010 Posted June 30, 2010 Me too... the kids should have moved out/on to university, the house will be tidier, mortgage paid off... it'll be ours again! Sorry, but if the children are at university then you will still be paying out a LOT of money I'm afraid. And then of course the little darlings come home! The house is tidier, granted, but the extra income is being used up even faster than it was when they were little. *children are ALWAYS a tie - even when they are grown up!

witch Posted July 1, 2010 Posted July 1, 2010 In our case, loans arent enough to cover the accomodation, never mind actual living

RichB Posted July 1, 2010 Posted July 1, 2010 Im 24, Network manager, started after uni 3 years ago! down hill since then!!!!!
jamesb Posted July 1, 2010 Posted July 1, 2010 Twenty-seven now, started out in IT at some age I can't recall doing the networking for my parents small business. In and out of it until University, usually working at schools, then left uni. Somewhat hectic time after university for a while and ended up working as a field engineer for a large company - worked out as petrol prices rose and my pay didn't that I was actually losing money by working for them. Left that job, took six months out (not by choice), got a part time job while studying with OU at a school on recommendation of my old head teacher, eighteen months later did a bootcamp course (yes I know people's complaints about them, but I still believe that if the intense training suits your method of learning and you have the experience they are incredibly valuable), found a job as a NM at a private school within two weeks of the course, moved on after revamping their network and basically putting myself out of a job to escape into the private world and haven't looked back since.* * Sequence shortened.
Jamman960 Posted July 1, 2010 Posted July 1, 2010 (edited) I'm 25, Started working in IT when I was 19 but spent far too much time messing with computers before that Female IT techs are fairly rare, I used to work in different schools all over the country and can only remember working with 5/6 two of them were network managers. It seems to be the same accross the board in IT Edited July 1, 2010 by Jamman960

JPS Posted July 1, 2010 Posted July 1, 2010 Im just about still appreciating my 20s but it shall not be for long (368 days). Been in IT 9 years now, previously a trainee accountant. I dont know whats worse, spending all day adding numbers or spending all day formatting data and reporting on it?
elsiegee40 Posted July 1, 2010 Posted July 1, 2010 Im just about still appreciating my 20s but it shall not be for long (368 days). Been in IT 9 years now, previously a trainee accountant. I dont know whats worse, spending all day adding numbers or spending all day formatting data and reporting on it? I know which is worse. I went to Uni to study Accountancy & Economics and did Computing as a third subject. At the end of the first year my marks reflected my interests and both departments agreed readily to me changing my major. So I now have a Computer Science degree with a minor in Economics! I HATED accountancy... I just ended up marrying an accountant
