It is likely to have a dns entry that will need configuring - check it is correct. Also DHCP option 66 - i presume you mean this anyway should point to WDS server. Also ensure client and server are on same subnet / not crossing routers etc.

Currently I have ran some bandwidth tests on the network using jperf (GUI version of iperf). Using a desktop machine with ethernet as the server and using a laptop over wireless as the client side. The setup is using Aruba 105 AP's with cloud management (no aruba management unit). The Laptop was connected via wireless 'n'. The results for some areas of the school showed bandwidth for the wireless well within expected thresholds (100-150mbits), while other areas of the school had the bandwidth down to 10mbit/s for wireless, even in a the same room as an AP (and having reconnected to make sure the AP was associated properly.). I have tested the wired side and this was showing gigabit speeds as expected, but the wireless side of it had these discrepancies. (I am making the presumption that the configuration of the wireless is okay as some units have expected speeds.) The only question mark regarding this is that ipad trolleys exist in the areas of the school where the bandwidth is low (30xipads) but the areas with reasonable bandwidth speeds have 5-10 ipads in the area. I am a little stuck as to how to proceed further to find out why this is occuring and would appreciate anyones input on next steps / options to take from this. Any input appreciated!

Also basic check that the policies are applied to computer objects and not users as they are computer settings. If its IE settings then - good luck!

Apple have a 'Volume Purchasing Programme' which you can use to buy multiple licenses for apps. This would handle the buying of many licenses at once. The part where you may need another Mobile Device Management solution will be when you try and distribute these apps - you can put them into a profile in Apple configurator, but the easier way to manage the apps 'on the fly' ie. put an app on in the future easily is with an additional MDM solution eg. Zuludesk, Lightspeed and Meraki.

If you setup (or have setup) an 'unauthenticated IP's' group in smoothwall, and have all non-authenticated devices on this profile. Instead of having any proxy configuration. Although this isn't a solution, its a workaround so that the devices can still be filtered for the internet and useable. The obvious limitation is that it cannot be per user its rather 'per device' due to the non-authentication.

Looks like they have to have DEP assignment to allow the shared iPads feature. So I will have to work on this method as the solution for this issue it seems.

I am having trouble setting up iPads as 'Shared iPads' in apple configurator. I am not using DEP (which contains this option in it as part of the profile) I am using the 'manual' option with Zuludesk as the MDM server to connect to. Everything is working fine and enrollment into Zuludesk is working, its just that there is no option under this mode to set the devices to 'shared ipad' and i cannot seem to be able to set this anywhere via blueprint in apple configurator or via profile in Zuludesk. I have read posts regarding a beta version of AC2 having this option but it then not existing in production. Has anyone come across this issue? And more importantly do you have a solution!

HDGraph is a really good tool for finding space usage, it is likely to only be certain staff if it is video's or photo's. This will give you a good idea of who is using the space so you can approach them directly or via SLT. It is free and can run off a memory stick and search any drive you set with a handy graphical output. I won't link the software *your chosen search engine* is on hand! Another culprit in the past has been apple profiles and cache locations - might be worth checking.

the msi had to be tailor made to the specific version that was installed, which did make it a little tedious.

Did not have the best experience with this, corrupting profiles (windows 7) was one major impact using this. This may have been site specific. Not allowing HTTPS traffic at one point also gave us some headaches! One real bug bear (assume this was part of its security aspect) was that it does not appear in add/remove programs and requires a specific uninstaller based on the version installed, made troubleshooting a pain (ie. does the problem exist without the software). That said the support is good and they are responsive, it just lacks any user forums / FAQ's etc for easy access to queries. The software itself in terms of reporting and finding esafety issues worked as intended.

Have you tried disabling SMART Ink?

set verbose logging in via: Right-click computer - 'properties', then select 'advanced system settings', then select 'settings...' in the 'Startup and Recovery'. Make sure the options are set here for 'small memory dump' (use the second option kernel memory dump if this options does not get results). NB: Check the area the dump file will save as (usually %systemroot%\MEMORY.DMP) This should mean that when the server blue screens it will report to the MEMORY.DMP file the reasons for the bluescreen. The RAM maximum of 4Gb for 32 bit means we work with 64 bit here so that if we ever want to expand systems there will be no crying into teacups! Plus it means we can remove some of the legacy software that creates similair tears for all technicians everywhere im sure.

I cannot find the article now, but i have read that some programs save locally and some to the network even when using network profiles. This may be part of the problem here.

Personally i preferred the method of using robocopy to move the contents of the users home folders (excepting things like desktop and a few other essentials!) to a 'documents' folder within their home folder. This was in addition to a csvde output for each username, with some excel magic to create the correct input parameters for the robocopy script. Once this was complete it required changing the group policies to the new location ie. %homearea%\%username%\documents. The copying does take a while though, but in my opinion is more preferable to having a GP run every logon.

You could also try swapping the batteries between laptops to see if that is the issue. It would be best to let the laptop dry completely before trying to turn it on again though, obviously water does not make laptops very happy bunnies.

Sorry if you already tried but the usual type of 'is the ethernet port/connection working' stuff like - is it communicating to the network? is there some old IP settings still on?

I would have a look at netstumbler as well, though i like the idea of seeing a live data stream and its effect in a wireless situation. Netstumbler has a sort of traffic light system for signal strength and its quite easy to see when an AP is strong/weak. Its quite simple to use just install and let it scan away.

I dont know if this exactly fits what you need, as you will need to take at least one AP round with you and place it in likely spots, but the netstumbler software is great for testing wireless signals and how strong/weak they will be. We had a disappointing performance first round, but managed to delude ourselves that scraping a 1 - 0 win over a third rate team meant we could do it, then back to the disappointment again! love the pic - the keeper looks like someone threw a blow up doll on to the pitch!

I had to tweak add on management to disable an add-on regarding the roxio cd creator software, but other than that as 3s said, the move from ie7 to ie8 was trouble free (so far!).
