The lady in charge of the staff cover (Absences) here has asked me if they was any particular software available to make her life easier.

We currently use SIMS.net so ideally it would integrate well with that. I have had a quick look round the SIMS website and it briefly mentions NOVA-T4 for cover but not much more information. Does anybody know if they is a cover module for SIMS or if they is any other software available that other schools use.

Thanks

There is a cover management module to be released as part of SIMS .net sometime next year - but no release date has been given yet.

It will be outside of the timetabling modules and full intergrated into .net

From the demo's I've seen it look very good.

I whipped up a rough and ready cover system in ASP to allow staff to check over the Intranet. Was one of my first so has an even rougher and readier Access DB serving it. But it works and only runs into problems when the lady that does it leaves an entry open half edited!

I can agree with Steve - the Cover part of SIMS .net, is going to be very good indeed. The demos, although impressive, only show part of what is going to be a very successful part of our software.

It will be time-based - and will seemlessly link with the rest of SIMS (including timetable - NOVA-T and Personnel - the HR module). Clever use of colour will enable teachers, once logged onto SIMS, to see easily their lessons of the day - as well as their cover lessons.

Of course, SIMS already has a Cover module - which is part of NOVA-T4 and is used by most Secondary schools.

The release date for the new Cover will be announced early in 2007.

@andy

Unfortunatly no we don't use PARS for our attendance.

@Toby.Belfield

Thanks for the info Toby, I'll look forward to getting a glimpse of it when it is released. As Mark has said I'd be interested in seeing it in action at BETT if it is on show. I've had a quick look on the http://www.capitaes.co.uk website and haven't found any screen shots or info on the new cover software - is this available anywhere?

Thanks

Would there be any chance of getting hold of a copy of this to have a look at? I have been asked to look at making this electronic.

We use Nova-T4 to arrange our cover at the moment here, it works realy nice as we still sync into 4 from SQL (which is from 6) to print off class lists.

You can publish it as HTML with a nice button, and if you set it up in preferences you can do it to a local intranet or webserver.

i have attached the page.

I sure hope Cover .net includes this as we send a copy to our school website for teachers to check who is covering them from home.

PARS des have a cover section which allows teachers to see what classes they are covering via their timetable on the homepage; if you cant see this option it means you dont have permissions and they will need updating.

If you dont have PARS then NOVA-T (SIMS) cover planning is very good and there is no point in buying an extra software package just for this.

We do something similar in that we export the cover and use a php page to parse it and send a message via the intranet to the people who have the cover telling them who they're covering for, when and in what room. It work really well.

It reports back to the cover admin that they've seen it (once it's been read) and those who consistently fail to read it get bollocked.

Cover in .net sounds nice though and I'm looking forward to seeing it in action.

Bromcom’s e-Cover will be available from Quarter 1 '08 and has been specifically designed, with the help of educationalists, with the Workforce reforms in mind. Staff cover is built around time (hours and minutes). Statistics are provided in time as well as number of periods, registrations, breaks, lunch times, pre-school and after school sessions (particularly useful for Examination invigilation).

Like e-Timetable, e-Cover is extremely intuitive with drag and drop features, helpful visual indicators and coloured cells to support the user.

It is an extremely simple exercise to add Agencies, Agency Staff, Support Staff, Exam Invigilators and Cover Staff to the database.

e-Cover electronically sends ‘cover notification’ to members of staff via e-mail, to Bromcom’s ‘My Page’ and to ‘Winfolder’ where the cover appears on the teachers timetable for the day. Cover slips can be printed.

e-Cover is one of a number of modules designed to be part of the new Bromcom MIS system, ‘Platform 3’. As with Bromcom’s registration package it will also work with SIMS.

If anyone wants more information then by all means drop me a PM off thread.

Kiran, I'll get something posted on SupportNet that shows you some screens. Should be there within 24 hours.

Thanks for these Phil.... greatly appreciated - and it looks good too!!! Would hope that cover lessons appear on the homepage timeline too!
