Do you like films? Do you watch your series and things like that?

I'd also say that the likes of Tom Cruise get paid way too much, but there does seem to be a modicum of business sense in movie/TV stars getting paid those sums (as they only get ridiculous wages if their films/shows continue to make money). Football clubs, on the other hand, seem to be constantly on the edge of bankruptcy - surely this suggests that they are paying the players too much?

I told him he needed planning permission for it - he thought I was joking but I'm right, he does ;)

I seem to remember that there is something in law about not being able to fly either the Union Flag or the St George Cross on domestic residences, but I can't remember exactly what it is - And they'll certainly be breaking with flag etiquette which states that a flag should not fly at night unless it is specifically illumated, amongst a whole host of other protocol... I digress.

Because rugby is a toffs game and cricket takes a whole day, at the very least....

you think football is boring, try watching a 3 day cricket match!

@tech_guy A call to the council planning dept is in order ;)

I think someone beat me to it as there was someone looking at it this morning according to the missus.

And I thought rugby was a game played by men with strange shaped balls....

Have I missed something? Is there football on?

Seriously my only interest is that is does some good for S Africa.

But will it though? All those millions living in shanties. All that will happen there is that the rich will get richer and the rest get to carry on living in abject poverty.

From what I saw in February, yes, there is a good chance.

...anyone else up for recommending that the likes of the firemen and women get paid that amount instead of footballers?

I don't disagree. But unfortunately firemen/women don't generate thousands of pounds for thier organisation everytime they show their face/put out a fire/cheat on spouse. It's the way the world works I'm afraid!! I don't think they deserve it, but they are generating that money - it's not like it comes from our taxes or anything.

I don't have strong feelings either way about football. I sometimes watch England if they're on because I live here, Scotland if they're on because I'm Scottish (very depressing to admit in footy season). Very occasionally I watch West Ham play with the old man, because he's a fan. Other than that I don't pay much attention.

Any other football-haters on here? I detest the sport. They should make it more interesting with guns and swords.

I may be dragged to watch a few matches by family. My solution is to take along my DS with BloodBowl. No swords, but orcs, pogo sticks, steamrollers, trolls and so forth. Plenty of distraction.

Don't most football clubs operate at a loss?

The clubs might, but individual players get sponsorship deals and advertising revenue don't they? I thought that's where they get most of their silly money...

Well, sorry to upset the party, but I love footy and can't wait for the World Cup to start. For me,this time of year normally represents a footy wilderness as I wait for the new season to start in August. I am a season ticket holder and go to every home game.

For those of you who don't like it, do what I do when I find something I dislike ... ignore it and let those that do, enjoy it in peace. As for the petty minded individuals who are going running off to their local councils at the first sight of an England flag, lighten up, what harm is it doing you?
