I urgently need some free CD/DVD burning/copy software that works with Windows 7

Tried CDBurnerXP and Ashampoo. The former seems to not want to copy a DVD I have (standard DVD from a video camera, nothing commercial) and the latter just crashes every time I go to copy a DVD.

Anyone?

ImgBurn? Works a treat on Windows XP (we have it on all our workstations), haven't tried it on Windows 7.

Using Ashampoo Burning Studio 2010 on Win7 here too (I think this is the first Win7-compat version); plus on all the XP clients. Works a treat, delivers via MSI and is free. There is an add-on to allow non-administrative users to run it - could be what is causing yours to crash?

Hmmm, could be, I have no idea. I'll look into this. Thanks.

There a program that I know of that just copies dvd. It called dvd shrink

I don't think DVD Shrink is quite what the OP is after, since it's more for ripping DVDs than burning files to disc. It also hasn't been updated since 2004 after the author left to work for Nero, so it can't cope with the latest copy protections. For that you would need to use AnyDVD, DVDFab PassKey or DVDFab HD Decrypter.

Another vote for ImgBurn. It just works. :)

However, watch out for the Ask toolbar and desktop icons when you go to install it.

Another vote for imgburn here - saved my bacon on a number of occasions when other software wouldn't burn data or didn't recognise the disc I was using etc

Slightly off-topic but for info: The new version of Foxit PDF reader also has this gotcha, as I found out to my cost.

I noticed that too and now use the ZIP file version which is toolbar-free.

If you use Ashampoo, you will need to get a little (free) add-on sent you, otherwise only administrators will be able to use it.
