I think it is absolutely appalling that people queuing to vote were turned away. They should have extended the voting period. Only in Britain could such stupidity happen.

RE: Anti-Scotland posts: I think this is a bit of a joke, now you all want us out! We have our own goverment yes but its not like it has huge power and its not like westminster doesnt still interfere. Look at the changes proposed by SNP for scrapping council tax, westminster said no and blocked it. Thats when we need our damn vote so we cant be walked over and thought of as cast offs. Ohh in so many ways I wish Scotland has develoved years ago as per How black gold was hijacked: North sea oil and the betrayal of Scotland - This Britain, UK - The Independent as we would have done better then!

I think Scotland should have told the UK go away back then but its not like we knew what we had!

As for prescriptions and uni fee's etc, stump up your own cash for it. We have it BETTER up here, get used to that as you have the power to change it for your OWN area, jelousy is a bad thing.

REALITY.SYS corrupted. Universa halted. Reboot? (Y/n)

If Labour and Libs join, would it not be logical that there should be another election in 12-18 months?

That way, Gordon can put his money where his mouth is, and perform the recession economic recovery miracle he says he'll do. If he can't do that, then it's definitely time to go.

Sorry if my posts came across as anti-Scottish or anti-Welsh, they're not meant to be. The frustration is that with the economic crisis there will be huge cuts across the board, but Plaid Cymru and SNP have stated that their requirement for support a Labour government is protection of the Welsh Assembly and Scottish Parliament budgets.

Expenses-parasite-midget Hazel Blears got back in... What's all that about?

Its about mindless drones voting down traditional party lines rather than looking at their candidates, policies and likely result for the country and voting accordingly.

I suppose they're just voting for the party closest to their views, even if that's just the least-worst option. :D

Very few work for that entire time, but that's irrelevant.

Let's assume that the majority of those who came later work standard hours. That means they finish around five o'clock. Call it a half-hour commute for them to get home, 5:30. Then it's not unreasonable for them to eat before going to the polling station, particularly if they're expected to wait a long time, call it 6:30.

They then get to the station at 7:00 pm.

I leave for work before 7 in the morning, so voting before work wasn't an option for me. I didn't get much of a lunch break, so going back and voting then was not an option. I then had to work a little late. Since I live right next door to my polling station I was lucky in that I could just stop in on my way back, plus my polling station did not have a queue. If it had done, I would have continued home, eaten, and tried again later rather than queing.

What, exactly, about any of the above is unreasonable or 'stupid' exactly?

The process is very simple. Go to polling station during the opening hours. Vote. Leave. The problem comes when queing is thrown in, and it is not unreasonable to expect that to be accounted for in the process rather than by the individuals trying to express their fundamental right to vote. Calling them stupid shows incredible ignorance and prejudice.

Well said that man!!

And as an extra point - I've never seen our polling station so busy before. Last election we walked straight in, queued for ~2 mins. This time waited for 40 minutes. It don't think it is unreasonable or stupid to base ones plans around previous experiences.

I never knew there were so many sheep in Salford.

It really makes me feel sick when I think about the state of the country that we've all woken up to - and then I see scum like that laughing all the way to the commons. This time next year we'll be like Greece.

Whats even worse is Mandy the Dark Lord will still be running the show, someone who we've already booted out of parliament but sneaks back in with a peerage and we've now got no way to get rid of him.

A lot of people don't even look at the policies or candidates. They've just always voted one way or another. I know a few people who do that.

You cannot extend the 10pm deadline because exit polls get published then & they may influence voter choice if people knew how the exit polls looked before voting. That's the rule.

My BIG problem with the current system, is the guy I want working for me locally is probably not of the same party that I want to run the country!

I live in a strong tory constituency, and the current (and now reelected) MP has been doing it for a while, and is actually a nice guy. But I do not agree with a lot of the ideals of the tory party, so could not in fact vote for someone I like, on the grounds that his party are in my view moronic!

So I have a choice of voting for a person who will potentially be good for me locally, while voting for a party that I don't agree with, or voting for someone who DOESN'T support my local interests, while voting for a party that I more agree with!

Since when have us Brits ever done anything the easy way!

If that's how you feel why not chop Scotland off the UK and be on your way?! You have it SOOOOOOO good up there don't you?! That's why there are 6 million Scots in England and only 5 million in Scotland.

Gee up scotty lad, it's grand up ere so it is sonny jim!

Or as we'd say down here - 'give your heed a shake'

Is it however fair that scottish representatives can vote in Edinburgh in favour of eliminating something like prescription charges or university fees in Scotland but vote at Westminister to retain them in England?

I'm sorry Gatt - have I said something offensive? Did I actually call anybody any names?

Am I not allowed to take offence that a country that is 'supposed' to be part of our kingdom makes up its own rules to suit themselves, and then they rub it in our faces?

I think the problem many people have with Scotland and the constant comments about 'them and us' is that it isn't helped by the constant talk of wanting to be independent, whilst still demanding input into England only policies. Personally, I couldn't care less whether Scotland was part of the UK or not (same goes for Wales, NI, etc...). But there has to be some form of equality between the voting powers available for MPs.

My thoughts exactly.

That is a fair point but its not like hypocrise is not exactly exclusive to Scottish politicians and for example in Scotland it was voted for scrapping council tax and England poo-poo'd it.

Localzuk: its a good point tbh, I do think Scotlands independance boat has sailed for now as I cant see it being viable any more or beneficial. My point is more interfering goes on tit for tat all the time. As long as westminster has power over scottish gov etc then obvously we have the right to vote/decide as is the way and its not like all policies are mutually exclusive to each country.

Do you feel the same about Europe? and that "we" are supposed to be part of Europe when "we" make up some of our own rules?

I think Scotland should be allowed to make decisions that affect Scotland, as should Wales, NI and England

Should Scotland be allowed to make decisions that affect England? or Wales? - No they shouldn't - Yet England is allowed to do just that - it doesn't make "england only" decisions - it makes decisions that affect the entire UK.. (Poll Tax anyone??)

I am not getting into the Independence debate as I am unsure myself about it..

It should be fairer - it should be that Scotland can only vote for decisions that affect scotland or the UK as WHOLE, same goes for England, Wales and NI... Unfortunately that is not currently the case...
