All-in-One computers. Any suggestions?

I have been searching the forums for any positive feedback on All-in-Ones but came up empty.

Has anyone recently purchased some and been happy with their purchase?

We use the Dell Optiplex USFF which bolts on to the back of a monitor bracket. We are very happy with these as they are a tidy solution which can easily be screwed to the desk for security and to keep them looking tidy.

Ergo AS1, had them for a while now and pretty happy with them. My only slight problem with them is that the graphics cannot be upgraded from the onboard graphics provided, intel gma. So any really graphically intensive applications might struggle however we have not had too many problems so far.

We bought all-ine-one machines from SCL a year or two back - I posted a panaoramic photo of our new media suite at the time, but that seems to have gone missing. The machines are generic all-in-one cases that can take most motherboards and half-height expansion cards, so you can fit (and later upgrade) whatever cheaply-available components you like. They work well in our limited-space media suite. SCL were great when we bought those machines, but have since changed hands so I don't know what their level of expertise is like now.

 

We also have some Acer nettop machines in our staff work area, the kind that are small enough to fit behind a monitor. These are very good but won't quite handle video editing or masses of complex Photoshop work - the newer models include dedicated graphics chips, seemingly, and might be more suited to graphics-heavy work.

We've recently got quotes in for HP Touchsmart 300-1125uk and Pavillion All-in-One PCs. Generally closer to the Atom side of low power PCs, but the CPUs and graphics are far superior. Nice screens, plenty of RAM, just need a Pro licence.

HP, Lenovo and Dell have all been very popular with schools we have found. HP offer the HP Elite 8000 USFF which bolts on to the back of the monitor. Dell also offer a similar unit as well as Lenovo. Lenovo also offer a true all-in-one system. Details of which can be found here.

We have a mixed bag here.. RM All-in-One, Ergo AS1 and recently Dell Vostro 320 All-in-one ... Dell wins for us on looks, price, quality..

I've got a HP one, it's OK. What bothers me is that they may be difficult to fix.

We don't have them but I would suggest the Dells, or any that it isn't really an all in one but something that hooks together. Our biggest gripe for the all-in-ones we have is they are tricky to fix as they have been built to stay together & not opened & if the screens go it isn't really cost effective to repair. At least with the Dell & others of that sort you just get a new monitor or if necessary hook it up to a spare you have.

The fact that those Dells look similar to iMacs was the reason we went for them.

 

The powers that be had suggested iMacs running Windows exclusively, which is a) an almost criminal waste and b) a deployment headache.

Usually go for Dell Optiplex USFF. The Dell Vostro line also have true AIO option in the 320 - Vostro All-in-One Desktop | Dell UK

 

I didn't know until now Dell did an all-in-one PC. I can't seem to see if the monitor is a hard one though.

I think you're going to be a bit limited on what all in one's are available to you at that price. The last ones we bought were £650 each for the ones here. The spec is good, but not 'amazing', so £420 is going to be a little difficult to get anything above a basic spec.
