Although I have not upgraded to 7 yet from what I understand even with volume licensing 7 computers have to regularly check the license is valid, I think at least every 180 days. You either need to do this over the web or run a licensing server on your lan for them to check themselves against.

Yes sorry you are correct, it's been a long hot day, of course anything like a custom script will do anything and everything you want. I used to be in the same boat as you with a very small budget when I worked in the private sector and I remember having to come up with loads of cost saving solutions to problems, I sort of miss that a little bit and still find it hard to break the habit. Ha ha true very true :-)

I'm no fan of the tory party but does anyone really believe that things would have been all that different had they won a majority and stayed in power? And as for the rich get richer and the poor get poorer, was it not Gordon Brown who abolished the 10p tax rate? As a direct result of the Labour / Gordon Brown spending policy over the last 13 years this county now owes £153 billion !!! I may very well loose my job anytime because of these cuts but we have to reduce this debt, we can't go on spending like we used to and probably never should have been!

I bought an APC SURT8000XLI approx 18months ago for a project for around £1500 on a special offer (ex VAT), having just had a look they seem to have doubled in price now. However this ups had to be wired into the mains supply on a new circuit which cost almost as much as the ups itself. This model comes with the management card and a separate temperature sensor module that you can place anywhere in your rack. I think the advantage of the management system over your PC with USB sensor is that its an all in one system, your not having to run an extra computer to achieve it and the software is probably a lot more flexible. I doubt anyone would recommend you try and build a ups out of car batteries either. :-) There is nothing wrong with your solution and if it allows you to protect your system within the budget you have then all the better.

It really depends on what you want the ups to do I think. Do you simply want it to run long enough so that there is enough time to trigger and shutdown everything or do you want to run everything for X minutes in the hope the power will return or a generator will kick in? I would also recommend APC for their reliability which however does come at a price. Also some ups have a built in temperature sensor to monitor the environment for you, it all comes down to how much you have to spend as there is little point in looking at a high end ups at £10,000 when all you have to spend is £1000.

As far as i know Ghost 2.5 works with win 7 however don't you also have to be running a license server on site so it can check the license every so often ? Didn't have to do this with XP volume licenses ?

I use dell servers at the moment and hp switches. As far as dell is concerned so long as you are within warranty I have not had a problem but as soon as I was out of warranty they didn't want to know me unless I took out a further warranty contract. As for the hp 4100 switches I use they have a life time swap out warranty and I have been so impressed with them and the warranty that this is the second job I have used the hp switches in. Also usually tend to stick with hp for printers unless cost is a real issue and need to find a very cheap alternative.

Hi this is exactly how I have mine setup so it is only connected to the LAN and not directly to the WAN. All you should need to do is assign a valid internal IP address and set your ISA server as the gateway for the cachepilot. If you are using AD for authentication then I assume the cachepilot must already be joined to your domain. Depending on how you have your ISA server setup you may need to create a new rule to allow the cachepilot to send and recieve over the filter port (smartfilter is 4004 I think).

I wouldn't bother trying to leave space like that to be honest. I would make sure you give yourself a decent OS partition, something like 50 - 100 Gb, as a lot of people tend to only allocate 10Gb (especially if setup by a support company or supplier) which is not enough. Then either one other large partition for everything else or your best estimates for any other partitions.

Hi I just got myself a Specialized Hardrock 2010 Disc for £350 from evans cycles and I am very pleased with it. The frame is solid and well made and not too heavy considering the price tag. I hadn't ridden a bike for about 20 years until I got this one as a way of getting fit. I have to say that for me the seat was a little narrow and hard so I replaced it with a slightly larger gel filled one for a few quid which has made all the difference.

I am in exactly the same situation with T-Mobile, I looked at the offer online for me to get the Desire and they would still charge me £30 a month over 18 months then they wanted £170 for the phone! I checked their website to see what a new customer would pay and as far as I can see for the same contract (including data) over 18 months a new customer pays only £99 for the Desire !!! Me thinks that I will be asking for my PUK code come the end of june and see if they offer me the phone for free or I will give another provider the £99 !!

Hi, yes they can you will need to go to the directory utility, services and edit the active directory service. In the advanced options section (hidden by default) you need to tick the "Create mobile account at login" option, from what I remember this creates a local cached profile on the laptop just like a windows pc documents and settings user profile which is persistent. You will then be able to login away from your domain however you will have to periodically reconnect to the domain to maintain this I believe. Richard
