Theblacksheep Posted April 9, 2010 Posted April 9, 2010 Apple shows off iPhone OS 4.0 - V3.co.uk - formerly vnunet.com iAd - now we know why they've added multitasking. 1
andy_nic Posted April 9, 2010 Posted April 9, 2010 its going to make my 3G one feel older. because some sites say only the 3GS and ipod touch 3rd Gen and above are getting the multitasking features.

Yup, that's right. I'm not complaining, though. I'm quite happy to quit an app to open an new one. Not a problem. Besides, my contract ends in September so I'll either go to the 3GS or the (possible) new one out in summer. I think the most beneficial feature for me will be the ability to create folders on the Home Screen.
DanW Posted April 9, 2010 Posted April 9, 2010 As a dev ... i'm liking OS4 already ... although i have a 3G so no multitasking infact i was so much of a geek i actually installed it last night .. was up till midnight re-syncing
CHR1S Posted April 9, 2010 Posted April 9, 2010 I dont see the point, they are adding features I have had on my JB for months
Hightower Posted April 9, 2010 Posted April 9, 2010 I think the most beneficial feature for me will be the ability to create folders on the Home Screen. That's something my G1 has been able to do since it's birth years ago! Wonder what else my phone can do that yours can't.....
WithoutMotive Posted April 9, 2010 Posted April 9, 2010 That's something my G1 has been able to do since it's birth years ago! Wonder what else my phone can do that yours can't..... I'm not an impatient person so don't mind waiting for these things... plus, I'm not in competition with anyone to see who has the best phone. At the end of the day, it's making life easier. Don't give a hoot what anyone else has.
DanW Posted April 9, 2010 Posted April 9, 2010 http://danwright.co.uk/photos/IMG_0584.PNG http://danwright.co.uk/photos/IMG_0583.PNG i've noticed my disk size has gone down now :/
Edu-IT Posted April 9, 2010 Posted April 9, 2010 Shame you need the 3GS to multitask but that said, I've lived without it, so I'm sure I can continue rather than spend hundreds on a new iPhone.

My thoughts exactly. It's not like I've been cursing my iPhone since I bought it because it couldn't multitask. If I needed multitasking, I'd have bought another phone. Happy to wait
Edu-IT Posted April 9, 2010 Posted April 9, 2010 Multiple Exchange accounts is nice though. Unless you need an iPhone 3GS++ to run that too.
DanW Posted April 9, 2010 Posted April 9, 2010 I resisted the urge to buy the 3GS .. i will wait with anticipation to see what the new hardware will be come June
Edu-IT Posted April 9, 2010 Posted April 9, 2010 So you're running it on a 3G? What exactly is and isn't supported then DanW?
neon Posted April 9, 2010 Posted April 9, 2010 did you get the os4 from the iphone development program or is it availiable elsewhere?
DanW Posted April 9, 2010 Posted April 9, 2010 So you're running it on a 3G? What exactly is and isn't supported then DanW? Yep, running it on a 3G and no multitasking on the 3G did you get the os4 from the iphone development program or is it availiable elsewhere? i'm a registered developer with apple so it's legal 1
edutech4schools Posted April 9, 2010 Posted April 9, 2010 The I-Phone only multitasks a few things like sound the rest is done with pause tasking. I am now glad I got a Google Nexus One last month from America as I was a bit worried the new I-Phone may have some killer specs when its comes out, but it doesn't even come close to googles phone, and I am not tied into any contract so my £10 per month contract for 300mins 300txts and unlimited internet mean I am quids in.
Ben-BSH Posted April 19, 2010 Posted April 19, 2010 (edited) So Dan, the 4.0 will give a 3G user like me a lovely new interface, folders and all the other jazz, just minus the multi-tasking? Oh and also, silly question, but would be awesome, can i now have a wallpaper behind my apps? i have seen alot of this in screenshots, but not sure if they are faked.. Ben-BSH Posted April 19, 2010 Posted April 19, 2010 They are probably Jailbroken Phones well, in the apple video, Apple - QuickTime - April 2010 Apple Special Event It shows a wallpaper behind the apps, but im not sure if this will be one of the 3GS only features, or whether even Steve has jailbroken his iPhone!
CHR1S Posted April 19, 2010 Posted April 19, 2010 I cant get any of those vids to play so I found one on youtube, still cant see it tho - care to take a screen shot?

CHR1S Posted April 19, 2010 Posted April 19, 2010 Could be the new default background for it or a dev phone.... guess we will have to wait and see eh
teddybear Posted April 19, 2010 Posted April 19, 2010 You can set an image as a background, not sure if you can select one of your own. A mate of mine is a developer and was showing it off in the pub last week. He's found quite a few problems though with the release he has so there's definately loads of fixing required. 1

Yes most of the new features such as folders, and wallpaper (although that's not yet enabled for 3G users yet, awaiting the next release!), you can actually 'hack' the multitasking on the 3G by editing a file ... although i haven't done this yet. He's found quite a few problems though with the release he has so there's definately loads of fixing required. i've found a few bugs, music stops playing and won't start, alarm won't turn off, won't charge .. although all of these have been solved with a reboot 1
