Bare in mind you can always ( and id recommend) DirSync as a backup / failover for ADFS, so you can always get in to your cloud services should the source of authentication go down.. Looks to me like the powershell session is never getting correctly setup, and therefore the script is getting no further on. try opening powershell first, then calling the script from inside the window. that will stop it from automatically closing when there is an error

Are you in the EMC? Load up your exchange console and then try __ EDIT, alternatively, just use Powershell New-MailContact -Name "Ben Edugeek" -ExternalEmailAddress "[email protected]"

I've seen this too, not sure if it was the exact same model. but Fujitsu's response was this is something they are not going to fix and we had to live with.

So that looks like something got an APIPA address, and wants to communicate with something else on the network, can you ping -a 169.254.1.71 it and will it respond? (you might need to alter your network config to see it) if you can ping it normally, then do an arp -a, get the Mac and see if you can match it to something in DHCP (if its lease is still around, assuming it had a valid IP once during the 8 day default lease time)

Ok, and that is with the same credentials powershell is using? the "[email protected]" if you connect to your 2010 server instead and run the same command are you successful? can you check the actual directory and permissions on the 2013 server. Surely if Capita wanted and were malicious enough to want to damage a school network, simply having a login to the database is bad enough. - Personally I'd say you are over thinking it. Whenever i had anyone from Capita on a server I always had visibility of what was going on anyway, as I wanted to learn how to fix it next time! Just my 2c

Not only that, but what if you are not so technically capable to be playing with ADSIedit? even if Microsoft DID support it, its a tool you can do a lot of damage with, and really something we shouldn't be forced to using for the sake of them building a small dll just like that acctinfo.dll which everyone used to love for getting last login info.

This is my exact point. - Microsoft do NOT support using the attribute editor. if you edit a users email address and the sync fails, or something else goes wrong, Microsoft will refuse to look into it and support it beacuse you do not have the EMC installed and connected to 365, which is the ONLY supported way of changing something as simple as an SMTP alias Sorry if my post was worded incorrectly, you have the EXACT setup I'm talking about. - and should you get issues you are in an unsupported scenario and will not get Microsoft support (I've verified this with the Microsoft Partner network, and technical leads at 365) - leading me to request something that would make you able to be supportable without installing EMC and as you said, defeating the purpose of moving to the cloud. What URL are you using as your connection URL? I've found on some machines you have to use outlook.office365.com and on others the POD34545.etc address to get it to correctly see the mailboxes. Also, leaving it an hour helps. I've done a few Migrations using it now, and the experience is different every time.

I'd really appreciate anyone in a similar position to give me 10 seconds and vote / comment on a feature request for Microsoft to build this into their 365 roadmap. In a nutshell - if you migrate to 365 and want password sync without implementing ADFS you currently have to keep a version of exchange on premise running and connected to 365 (forever!) to be supported in editing attributes related to exchange (ADSI edit / Active Directory advanced features view is not supported or recommended). - so much for being able to "move" to the cloud.. This is the link where you can vote, and hopefully this will push Microsoft to develop further to support people with limited on premise server infrastructure. Our SIMS was recently Migrated to 2012R2 and all client machines updated to Windows 7. SIMS is behaving unusually slow, in some areas but not others. For example : Focus > Assessment > Template > then choose Template Columns - "New" > "Add Columns for Data Entry" > then choose next > you get the option to select result. when searching using the text box, this is quite responsive. however, on the next page, where you select aspects, typing in this box is incredibly slow. you get serious "lag" typing and it seems ridiculously unresponsive. (Attached is the text box in question) Is this a common issue with the Aspect Browser? do we have too many? the client machine I've tested it with is a Core i5 with 4GB of Ram, the SIMS server is a Hyper-V box with 8 Cores and 24GB of RAM. so both are well spec'd machines (although this aspect browser slowness is the same on all clients regardless of spec) (have renamed My SIMS Documents folder, ran the re-index patch before the migration (does this need to be run again?) checked all the other basic things all to no success. I think it would be a great idea, one thing to consider though could be the user profiles? - Will you leave them on the local drive, to speed up logging on (the "preparing your desktop" first run issue would be gone) but then the drives could potentially fill up quite quickly at 128gb depending on exposure to different students. - obviously deleting the profile at log off will ensure you keep a good amount of drive space, but will that not incur the speed hit of the first run every time a user logs on? Forgive me if i have been stupid and missed something that would give you the best of both. just my 2c
