Morning All Slight issue at my school, they have a start menu, which is redirected to a share, as per the norm. but when accessing the start menu, it can take up to 50 seconds to display the redirected portion of the menu. what i dont understand is the menu is only 270KB (1.42 Meg on disk) however there are 360 files, and 70 odd folders, so it might be taking the time due to processing? just wondered if anyone had any ideas. (this happens on gigabit nics, fast / slow PC's. not just some hardware) Thanks in advance! Ben.

We have recently setup an exchange server, and find messages sit in the queue, and users get delivery delayed messages, when you telnet to our smtp server, the messages flow through correctly for a while the stop. Obviously SWGfL have the control over the mail records, but they are set correctly. Does anyone have any ideas what might cause this?

Hope everyone is enjoying their lunch Having a little issue with Digital Blue software, V3 (lots of people get along with it, i personally hate it!) error message on a Win7 x86 machine, relating to codecs. its Error 32, and is "directshow error class not registered" Does anyone have any ideas or has seen this before? i had already tried the klite pack, and found this Directshow Error 32 for the Digital Movie Creator 3.0 but that has also not resolved it. Cheers in advance!

You legend! many thanks, i did a lot of searching but could not find anything, just tested on one machine, and all appears to be gone, as long as it is enough to let the ESET installer run, I am a happy man! Many thanks! Ben.

I will have to remove Sophos 9.5 on approx 100 machines. and may kill myself if it has to be done manually. Does anyone have an up to date script to remove sophos? from what i know and have read, it is rather defiant at being removed. Many thanks Ben.

Just a quick question, as i will have to do this soon, for approx 100+ PC's. As anyone managed to deploy Office 2010 via GP? without hassle? all the threads i have found seem to require multiple reg tweaks, templates and all manners of fuss i really would rather not bother with and just image them if that was easier. If you have, do you have the steps you took? Thanks in advance Ben.

Server thinks it is a DC but it isn't

Fingers crossed, i know it has worked in the past for me when servers have done similar things to yours / the tombstone lifetime has expired. -

if dcpromo doesnt work, have you tried dcpromo /forceremoval ? -
Has anyone else noticed the correlation between the common issue with Internet explorer displaying text in italics, regular versions of Arial, Veranda etc going missing on Windows 7 Machines, to only HP Machines? I regularly get teachers / support staff with missing fonts on newish Win7 builds, where the fonts were there, but then got deleted / corrupted and therefore Win7 reverted to italics, or in some cases, such as SIMS reports / census's crashed completely. I have noticed it is only HP machines that do this. (or to my knowledge) Obviously the easy fix is to simply copy across the fonts from another machine, but i was wondering if anyone had any idea why this happens in the first place? Many thanks! Ben.

FMSinst it is then! im guessing the SIMSinst executable is the best for SIMS aswell then?!

Hi there, long time no post! Quick question, more of clarification really. Installing FMS, completely safe yes? i was always lead to believe the client PC installation from S:\Sims\Setups\FMSApplicationSetup.exe or similar was completely harmless, and would never do any damage to the database or server's setup. I have recently been told otherwise, and have been told it can write to the db on installation and break / corrupt things. obviously as this is a accounting package, it has raised some serious concerns. (not told this by a member of capita, just FYI) So, i just wanted to check that the installation is completely safe. and running S:\Sims\Setups\FMSApplicationSetup.exe then editing / redirecting the fmsconnect.ini is all that is required. Many thanks Ben.

Already got a 205 its insured, for 1299 ish. but thats pretty good, because all other companies wanted 1600-4000. this insurance only lasts 10 months, but at the end of it, if i stay with them and get a renewal quote, they give me one years no claims. which is all right, due to the fact, come renewal time (long before it, but still) i will be 21 as well, and therefore out of the "OMGIWANNAKILLMYSELF" 17-21 age bracket. And thanks all, means a lot! so happy to finally be able to drive to work (im sure the novelty will wear off soon enough )
