Sorry to get back to the previous thread again. but after explaining how happy i am to of sold my first website, my mothers partner has questioned why i would even be considering paying tax at this stage, and mentioned even declaring an extra £100 is going to be A LOT of hassle, and the whole self assessment form thing is not that easy, as i have to declare i am selling a service, 3 months after doing so max, registering etc etc. is this true? i mean, i only wanna keep my extra pocket money, which might not amount to any more than £200 a year, on the level. surely it can't be that time consuming to just pay the taxman what i owe and be done with?

oh, ok, awesome guys, so i should be simply giving them a receipt, for 1 x website design & coding. charging £100, and then telling Mr TAX man i earned an extra £100, and pay him his "£20?" i owe him? (i think it is 20%) Now, as per the wording of my service provided, and the item i am selling, should i be very simple? or go into more depth? for example. 1 x website design, all coding, images and PSD files included. or: 1 x Website design including : coding, design, images, PSD files. permission to modify design in any way, aslong as "link" to ben'sdomain.com remains fully CSS and XHTML validated at point of sale, no support/maintenance agreement included. Thanks in advance

Hi again all, advice needed please Well, after my previous post, here : >click< i have made my first website for a customer, and they have decided they would like it, and have asked me to bill them, this is for a friend from work, and although i do not think for a minute anything would turn nasty, SHOULD i miss something, i want to be covered in the sale, as much as practically possible that is! (mainly for future sales which i may not trust the buyers as much as i do for this one, but its still good practice.) So, considering i am going to bill them, and then just file a copy of the invoice, and then sort out my extra earnings at the end of the year via the self assessment form thingamujiggy (discussed in previous thread) what do i need to put on the invoice? in terms of tax, etc. and should i place any wording on there, to cover me for the sale? no "maintenance" agreement has been agreed, and as of now, i am simply selling them the designed site, with their content in it. annnddd...just for ease of my teeeeny brain, lets say i sell it for £100 (makes my % workings out easier ) do i then need to add 20% on, and say the total is £120? and then pay the 20 tax at the end of the year, and 100 "profit" or say it is £100 and then pay 20 at the end of the year, giving me 80 "profit" I really have no clue when it comes to all of this, i just want to stay relatively covered, and more importantly, keep the taxman happy, so he gets his fair share, and the people buying the site arn't getting fleeced. oh, and just incase you dont want to skim through the previous thread, i am in full time employment, and have started doing odd jobs IT wise, for extra pocket money, which i declare at the end of the year, via the form thing, i am NOT a company, so do not have VAT numbers, business numbers, or any of that jazz, and i hope i dont need it either Thanks in advance

Cheapest way to obtain high-performance file server
Ben-BSH replied to dhicks's topic in How do you do....it?
might be worth giving stone a call, they just spec'd and we purchased a nifty file server from them, at nearly half the price quoted by another company -
Just thought I would share, as the price is currently bonkers! I've just ordered my copy! Amazon.co.uk have Battlefield Bad Company 2 for 14.97! See all you who currently have it in the warzone soon ~Ben

i had apart an extensa 5220 the other day, and replaced the female (the bit you are explaining is broken) charging slot, with ease. try to find a disassembly guide, that will indicate if you need solder to fix the problem, or if it is simply slot in components, either way, with a spare part purchase, it should not be too difficult

Same, I hope you do get a good turnout, and everything runs smoothly! If you do get too bored though! a picture of these spectacular sounding grounds would be awesome!

HTC Sync - Anybody have tlib_log.dll?
Ben-BSH replied to LosOjos's topic in Mobile Devices & Tablets
Have you tried an un-install/re-install? seems to be the common issue with that Telecalib DLL -
Another +1 for Wordpress here, installed it locally at home, with XAMPP, had it up and running in minutes, and the theme tweaked and looking completely fresh and new within about 15 minutes. I currently have only a basic portfolio site, but as soon as the need arrives, i will be using wordpress *Edit, very simple instructions added* Basic (local machine) Wordpress installation Download both of these : http://wordpress.org/download/ http://www.apachefriends.org/en/xampp.html Install Xampp, choosing a dir to run from etc. When finished, put the unzipped wordpress folder inside the "htdocs" folder, of the dir you chose in installation. open XAMPP, start both MySql and Apache, in mysql, make a database, and a new user, note the details (click admin on the CP) run http://localhost/wordpress/wp-admin/install.php and then follow the guide, entering in the details for the Sql Database. Done! (please don't take those instructions as patronising, I'm sure you don't even need any help, but just in case )

Please see image 1 for a very bad way of me trying to describe the solution i am after. (red is what we would prefer not to replace) We need new projector plates, which will allow us to place different projectors on brackets with minimum fuss, as we currently have to replace our PLCSE15 projectors regually, and to get them to fit the new brackets (image 2 shows the issue, those pillars do not meet the screw holes on the bottom of the projector unit) we have to take the plates down to DT, to be cut up and then soldered to fit the new units, which is less than Ideal. what we would ideally like to find, is a plate/container, universal, with the 4 main screws on the top, so they can simply be screwed into our existing ceiling pole plate (the one in image 3, showing the 4 screws which then hold in the plate connecting the projector plate. the projector plate being what we are looking to get rid of) and then universally fit any projector we require to put up. in image 1, again, red is showing what we would prefer not to replace, and the green arrow points to the plate which actually fits to the projector which is what we are looking to remove from the equation. Thanks in advance, i may be asking for a product which simply does not exist, but we just need a far easier projector mounting solution, with minimum effort to do the change over. ~Ben

Got it in one! almost all methods you put in place, could be abused anyway, depending on the determination of the staff, to fraud when they were and weren't on site.

Yes, it is just a bit of pocket money i am after, sorry, that should of been something i mentioned, i only said the word buisness beacuse, as i will happily admit, Tax etc, i do not understand it all, or the ways and means, all i know is i want to be honest, and earn my living properly. So basically, ring taxman after i finish my first job, let him know i have "extra" earnings, and would like a "self assessment form?" and fill in what i have earnt this year, extra, and pay tax on it. yes? Thanks in advance, you guys have helped so much!
-
Just spoke to the tax man, after shouting "gimme ma money!!!" repeatedly, he said, if i know how much i will earn, he can add it to my tax code, which i told him i do not know, so no thanks! and then he agreed it might just be best to simply just phone them / go online, and say i have some extra earnings this year, fill out a form to say i have earnt an extra £900 and pay tax on it. or thats the impression i got, sounds easy enough, any advice? i doubt the taxman would lie to me! but at the same time, i know NOTHING! (about tax, or what the future holds) and this year, i could earn an extra £5 or £1500 so it does seem the best solution to me.
-
i doubt VERY much i will be earning more than 2k! this is why i was thinking possibily just delare what i do earn as additional income. im on the phone to the Taxman/lady now see what he says, apart from "gimme ma money!"
-
so are people in the agreement here that simply continuing like i am, but just declaring it all on the form i get at the end of the year, is not a good way to go? it seemed the simpliest when my line manager explained it to me. i do not need to setup a company, i just thought it was the only legal way to be able to say yes to people asking for web design/ PC repairs etc.
-
one thing i did forget to mention, sorry, DOH! i am in full time work already, as an IT Tech, this is spare time stuff working at home.
-
Just an update, have spoke to the line manager, he reckons its much easier, starting off, to simply declare all "extra" earnings at the end of the year, on the big form thingamujiggy (going back to Witch's comments on voting, yes, just coming out of Education, i know NOTHING about tax or voting, or any "life important stuff") What are the benefits of this also? and pitfalls i should look out for? Thanks guys & gals

Been thinking alot recently, and i would love to take the current "can you have a look at my PC, ill throw you a bottle or two of booze" further, and start charging properly, for web design (which i am really into, and have several people interested in, wanting sites, and offering money) PC repairs, etc. What is the best way to go about it? i am not the type of person who is just happy to take £500 to make a site, and not declare it, as karma would only ensure (should it be illegal, im not even 100% on if it is or not, to take money to do a website and not declare it as earnings) i would get caught out, and then be put in a lot of trouble. I have seen it looks like about £35 to set up a company via a online website, which just seems to good to be true, im sure there are more hidden costs (of course i know i would have to pay tax on my earnings) but is there anything to watch out for? or more importantly a morally and legally correct way to do things like web design but not require all the fuss and hoohah? Thanks in advance update 1 Just an update, have spoke to the line manager, he reckons its much easier, starting off, to simply declare all "extra" earnings at the end of the year, on the big form thingamujiggy (going back to Witch's comments on voting, yes, just coming out of Education, i know NOTHING about tax or voting, or any "life important stuff") What are the benefits of this also? and pitfalls i should look out for? Does anyone have any current way to import a sims export into MRBS? or a free room booking system that could? Basically, trying to remove the manual entry part of room bookings at the start of each term, and would love a way to take a SIMS export and whack it into the MRBS system we have, but no current way is known. Thanks in advance
