Did one yesterday and one today, both rebooted fine no issues. Are they VMs or Physicals?

Our phones are teams phones, files in sharepoint, teams, OneDrive etc, most new systems are linked via entraid so we’re just creating accounts in local AD to sync entraID. students 1-2-1 devices are in Intune, iPads also. Staff devices soon will be Intune managed, so then that’s mdt and sccm gone. it rooms we only have 2 rooms and a hand full pc like DT machines, which could intuned. Most other servers is just supporting local ad services. Then was thinking a online service to back up just the printer server. With most in the cloud already we just moving users accounts main home to entraID.

So most things are stored in the cloud, i'm thinking removing AD, entra Connect and the rest and going fully server less. Maybe apart from a printer server i know papercut and sync with EntraID but is the papercut/paper server just Azure joined? is there any hidden things people have came across which the didn't think of when they started the journey? our firewall can manage the DHCP part.

I always spin up a new server and migrate over. Done all but 3 servers since i started here, only cause they have a few more years and due to be decommissioned. Mainly as most had held other roles and just had bits left over all over the place. I just like to start fresh, also i find it easier to fix as you build it, while increasing security, rather than in-place possible get random issues.

By restart do you mean to finishing off the install of the update? when there set not to in working hours? As i get this randomly since 23H2 on devices. however there is also the weird issue with this months updates causing reboots.

We have a staff Team, with a staff notebook, staff can still access the Team however since start of last week some staff keep getting you no longer have permission to the notebook. it seems to be all accounts created since 2023, tried removing them from the team and adding back in again. but doesn't work still no access to the notebook. because it staff team you can't set the permission from what i can see on the notebook setting, created 3 test accounts added it to the team and just get "We're still setting up access to the notebook for you" added a old existing test account and works straight away and doesn't get removed. Got ticket with microsoft just wondering if anyone has come across this before? also looked at the new and old test accounts can't see any difference in AD or Entra.

Can you share, the command line you’re using for the mdt application install, also the config file contents. Also are your latest setup file in your deployment? As it something i forget when i update the deployment of office365, but recently ive been getting strange results such as the setup file ignoring the predownloaded contents for the setup. Then gets stuck trying to go out to the internet, You can also force shared activation using gpo if you have the office admx added your central store I do this as a backup.

i'm try to copying a wallpaper file and desktop shortcuts, i've done this at a job before before my current one and it worked, now gone to implement it, currently using windows 11 24H2 which i'm starting to think is the issue. The PowerShell script is copy-item -path "$PSScriptRoot\Shortcuts\*" -destination "C:\Users\Public\Desktop" -Recurse also tried $ScriptPath = Split-Path $MyInvocation.MyCommand.Path and ".\Shortcuts\" I package them up as win32 app, then used these commands in Intune and check it is set to system. powershell.exe -File .\OfficeShortcuts.ps1 and powershell.exe -ExecutionPolicy Bypass -File .\OfficeShortcuts.ps1 and C:\Windows\system32\WindowsPowerShell\v1.0\powershell.exe -command .\OfficeShortcuts.ps1 but always fails? i had this with installing office it would just sit there until you cancelled it, but running it manually after the build works fine. Still hit and miss when i update the application in MDT, have your tried a restart task before installing the application? i've had application not install as something which installed before it made it crash out.

i have bit locker on devices, which saves the bit locker recovery key to Active Directory, this is done via GPO and done just after the laptop is finished building with MDT and Intune Devices in to Azure. staff login with there normal domain accounts, everything is on OneDrive, but if there is a issue with bit locker normally after a windows update, we just give the the code over the phone or ask them to come in and its back to normal. i've recovered a device once or twice using PowerShell and CMD as the laptops failed to boot/ got corrupted, the copied the profile off to a USB drive, but now days everything syncs apart from download and music, so we just reimage after speaking ton the member of staff.

We had issues i think it was with devices not handing over, might be wrong as was a few years ago. but with a different model but on the WLANs section we enabled "Fast Roaming Protocol" 802.11r Configure roaming protocol (not applicable when authentication type is Open)

Collected mine but not tried it yet, from smyths toy store last night from mid night never been to mid night launch before, was bit all over the place as there was 2 lines preorders and people who turning up to by if stock is there. To start with people who preordered were told we can't buy games or accessories only collect what was on our preordered , the buy people queue seems to go quite quick, with pre order line stuck pass the 12:30 time end time, Then people who had preordered but not collect theirs yet got told we could buy games and accessories. Did hear some stores closed at 12:30 as the event was 12:01 till 12:30, my store stayed open as i got in just as it turned 12:30 with people who still hadn't collected but were still waiting in line.

We use Solidworks my question is do you run the software to the Spec of Solidworks as it seems to be very specific on Hardware even listing models, is anyone running the latest version and if so what hardware are you using for it? also what CAD software are their DT Department using.

Glad it fix it for you. 24H2 is a odd update only 2 device in my school have taken the update, other just find it, try to install and disappear and these are device which some are less than a year old, full up to date with current drivers, Dell update command or Lenovo Vantage

Noticed your using 24H2, does it still not work if you use 23H2? As i have a lot of devices on site, which install 24h2 get to 100% in Windows updates settings then the updates just disappears goes back to check for updates like it was never there.

i do mine using the Feature updates tab, not the update rings tab, once assigned to the group takes a day for the update to appear.

I did a swing migration yesterday, old server on the way out so, the auto upgrade failed, the agent uninstalled itself on the 13th so finally took the opportunity and migrate it, I got export errors which down to permissions in AD, even after running the trouble shooter and repairing permissions . Does it tell what the reason was? when you look at the synchronization service?

Mirror for the OS and RAID 6 for Data, i think after looking between RAID 6 and RAID 10, i decided it was close but RAID 6 won for me as it can have 2 drive failures and keeping the storage i needed and i have seen this happen to a domain controller 2 drives with 5mins. However i am also looking at Storage spaces direct for a Hyper-V cluster.

Hi all, Looking at creating a Hyper-V Cluster with Storage Spaces Direct, one thing i'm kind of stuck is how the network is best setup in terms of Virtual switch to Physical Nic Fibres 10GBps to physical network switch. Some say to Team all together and separate at virtual switch, some say Team and give each team a role like management, storage, etc. Andrew

Hosts are 256GB Ram, VMs are 8GB minimum, 16GB for SCCM,MDT,SQL & 24GB for old MIS server. Also i don't use dynamic RAM.

So i install Office 365 by downloading it then updating the MDT Folder which has the setup, Office files which downloaded and config file then the MDT Task with "setup.exe /configure configuration-Office365-x64.XML" Yesterday all of sudden this has stopped working, nothing has changed GPO wise, tried in a empty Blocked GPO just to check, All other apps are installing ok, i just get it hanging with a Office folder created in program files and some times a download fold with other folders, sometimes has files in exes, dlls, etc, within the downloads folders. Tired a new version of the setup file and new downloaded files. also tried editing the config file to say to use a source folder but never have in the past. also added a restart task before office install to check something wasn't getting stuck, and also different images also the same just hangs on installing office.

I have a ASUS ROG Ally, would recommend, playing gears 5 on it, halo for a bit just to test it. I mainly use mine for ets2 and sonics games currently.

2 fixes we try is restart explorer via task manager and some times this works Windows + Ctrl + Shift + B which refreshes/restarts graphic drivers.
