kjtranter Posted March 24, 2010 Posted March 24, 2010 Hi All I'm doing a research project for my degree and I need to research some basic figures on ICT networks in UK Secondary Schools. If you would be so kind as to take the survey that would be great and really help. 9 questions - shouldn't take long to fill out. Please use this link School ICT Networks Survey Many Thanks Much appreciated.
webman Posted March 24, 2010 Posted March 24, 2010 Questions 5 and 6 are the same. 5. Of your desktop computers, how many of each run the following operating systems? 6. Of your desktop computers, how many of each run the following operating systems? 1

Of your desktop computers, how many of each run the following operating systems? It's just in case you have had more delivered and installed since answering the previous question 1
kjtranter Posted March 24, 2010 Author Posted March 24, 2010 Sorry about duplicate questions. Thanks for spotting. I've changed it now. Many thanks for responses
webman Posted March 24, 2010 Posted March 24, 2010 It's just in case you have had more delivered and installed since answering the previous question Ahh right, that makes sense I just entered 0. 1
mrmontymick Posted March 24, 2010 Posted March 24, 2010 Out of interest why no Forefront TMG which is the direct replacement for ISA 2006? You have Exchange 2010, Sharepoint 2010 etc.... 1
tmcd35 Posted March 24, 2010 Posted March 24, 2010 I noticed there was no Server 2008 R2 option, I answered Server 2008 for this. Also no destinction between physical/virtual servers. I toted up physical only. Not sure if that was right? 1
enjay Posted March 25, 2010 Posted March 25, 2010 No option for all-age schools; I put Secondary as most of my work is there. 1
powdarrmonkey Posted March 25, 2010 Posted March 25, 2010 Do you want to know about physical servers, virtual servers, both, or the total? edit: My backbone is mixed, and there isn't a category for our internet connection or an 'other'. 1
enjay Posted March 25, 2010 Posted March 25, 2010 Also, you ask about "interactive smartboards" - Smart is a brand name not a product name, the generic term for all brands is 'interactive whiteboard'. 1
enjay Posted March 25, 2010 Posted March 25, 2010 My backbone is mixed Same here (and many other schools, I'm sure) so I went with Gig, since we have more Gig than we do 100. Options for "mostly 100" and "mostly Gig" would have been good, though. Some other interesting options elsewhere too, asking about the number of Win 95 PCs and 10GbE backbones - are there any schools out there with either of these?! 1

enjay Posted March 25, 2010 Posted March 25, 2010 That's the point of a survey, surely? True, just not sure I'd have bothered giving them as options, in the same way as he decided not to ask about Win 3.11 or satellite uplink Internet connections... 1

Butuz Posted March 25, 2010 Posted March 25, 2010 Done! Maybe could do with an options between 1GB and 10GB (e.g I have 4 x 1GB trunked on the backbone for 4GB) Butuz 1
Butuz Posted March 26, 2010 Posted March 26, 2010 Yeh I put my thin clients down as workstations. Butuz
gibbo_ap Posted March 26, 2010 Posted March 26, 2010 will you be making the results available to all? this would be an interesting?
somabc Posted March 26, 2010 Posted March 26, 2010 I hope you are not doing this for marketing purposes a list of all schools kit would be very valuable.
enjay Posted March 26, 2010 Posted March 26, 2010 I hope you are not doing this for marketing purposes a list of all schools kit would be very valuable. Not really - he doesn't know who gave which answers, or who we are in the Real World...
kjtranter Posted March 29, 2010 Author Posted March 29, 2010 Thanks all for responding to the survey. I will publish the results at the end of this week for anyone who is interested (and has completed the survey) Thanks again
kjtranter Posted March 29, 2010 Author Posted March 29, 2010 A few more secondary schools would be great if anyone can spare the time School ICT Networks Survey - Click Here
mrbios Posted March 30, 2010 Posted March 30, 2010 Took the survey but had similar issues to others with regards to the use of virtual servers and the questioning only 1 year until we can tick the 10GBps backbone on that questionaire all the fibre is capable, the switches are capable, it's just a case of buying the modules and gbics capable of running it now (granted we probably won't bother going completely 10GBs as it's a bit overkill )
