Imaging Software

Any particular recommendations for drive imaging software for Windows 7 machines? It's for domestic use.

 

I've been using DriveImage XML but was wondering what others use.

You should be doing that no matter what imaging solution you use.... (Although I do believe fog has a third party tool that does the same stuff that you can run after) And in a domestic situation it wouldn't really cause a issue if you dont, The issues it most commonly causes in schools/business is duplicate SIDS which WSUS/Most AV central management systems use for telling different systems apart. for home use i assumed it was more for backup rather than actual deployment

I'd say imagex again, you don't have to sysprep unless you're rolling it out to various machines. I tend to image before I sysprep so I can easily go back and install/change software.

Control Panel>System Security> Backup and Restore>Create a system image

Also gives the option to create a System repair disc

Works perfectly.

I use Acronis TrueImage Home and sometimes Macrium Reflect at home.

 

 

Both DriveImage XML and the built-in backup feature of Windows 7 aren't that good IME. Whenever I have used them in the past, the backups I created have always had problems when it came to restoring them.

Another vote for CloneZilla here as well, brilliant bit of software, use it all the time for repairs.
