That's a pain. I'm assuming it downloaded "language-pack-en-us-win10-64.zip" and it had "lp.cab" within that?

I'm assuming you have updated to the latest version of Config Manager? I think you need to be on 2012 R2 SP1.

Just to resurrect an old thread. We have been having the custom tools issue since moving to Windows 8.1 (SMART Notebook 11.4 and now 15). I have contacted Smart directly and been informed that it is likely due to insufficient permissions to the My Documents folder. When I explained that we are running a standard Windows domain and the users documents are redirected to a network share I was told: "We are unable to provide support with networks or domains. Please contact your network administrator for support. Furthermore SMART Notebook® collaborative learning software requires the My Documents folder to be on the local machine hard drive and not on a shared network drive." This worked fine on Windows 7 and the older version of Notebook.

Morning all Since installing SP1 I have been having an issue with OSD when using an answer file. I have set it up so that there are commands that run during first logon, this is an auto administrator logon, and once they are done the system is told to restart. After the install of SP1 I have noticed that after the machine has finished installing etc. that I find a logged on administrator user, my initial thought was that the answer file was causing an error somewhere during the last sequence but as far as I could see all the commands were being implemented and the smsts.log didn't show anything useful. It turns out that they have reorganised the deployment sequence between RTM and SP1, previously SCCM would do all of it's stuff like install the client and deploy updates, and then finish off with the answer file command lines. Now it will go through those command lines while installing the client, so the first auto logon that I used to need is unnecessary and leaves a potentially vulnerable machine if installed unobserved. I should note that I don't have any documentation besides my own monitoring of the install process to back this up. Hope that helps someone in the future.

Hi all I have had a look through the various other 'What printer' threads but couldn't find anything that quite helped. We have been using HP Laserjets onsite for years but have found in the last year or so that HP drivers dramatically increase the logon time of a client machine (We do printer assignment through GPP), by up to a minute. To combat this we initially moved to Canons but found that the software for those creates processes for each Canon printer running and generates a new one for every printer whenever you restart the print spooler meaning we can end up with 42 Canon processes running. Soooo we are now in talks about what manufacturer to go for, we have a couple of Ricoh colour lasers which so far have seemed pretty good but finding independent reviews of them is difficult. What manufacturers do you guys prefer and for any particular reason? Thanks in advance

We are on a large site so we have thought about putting a backup server somewhere other than the network office but we aren't sure how far away is considered far enough. The schools test condition is a plane hitting the site, so probably needs to be far off site. Thanks for the responses

Afternoon all We are currently reviewing our backup policy and I am wondering what other people do. Currently we do a monthly backup on Monday and Tuesday to Friday we do a weekly backup. The Monday disks go to a safe in the accounts department and the Tuesday to Friday disks will go home with an IT staff member. The main bone of contention is the taking home of disks as the Director of ICT doesn't think it is fair on us to take them home in case of theft etc. We have talked about placing a backup server somewhere else on the site but there is debate over what is considered far enough away. Anyone have any thoughts on this? Thanks

I just looked at my answer file and I left out the PC Name field and my image prompts me for the name. If you look at the XML of the answer file do you have an empty field for the PC Name?

No problems with 3.1 and 200 workstations here either. You should just be able to roll it out from the console.

I don't know how much time he has spent on the cover system but he knows the rest of Facility pretty thoroughly. He doesn't do the cover itself but tends to learn how to use the systems so he can support the stuff that do eventually use them.

The comment that it was crap came from my NM who has used it, so it's not an opinion he has just heard and reiterated

Thanks for the responses, I'll get around finally to replying to the PMs shortly. Teksys mainly offered us Telephone Support for issues that we couldn't fix, the option to get an engineer in to do server updates or help us build our VM cluster etc. and we could do our hardware warranty etc through them as well. The amount we end up spending with them per year makes them cheaper than a newer member of staff and seeing as we had to fight to get a new guy last year I don't see us being able to get one again anytime soon.

Hi all We've been using a third line support company called Teksys for a number of years and we are considering moving. One company we've spoken to is Nouveau and I'm just wondering if anyone else has had dealings with them and what their opinion is? Thanks in advance

@Suhk Checked through the link and my settings appear to be fine. @AngryTechnician I'll try the hotfix shortly and see if that makes a difference. The other annoying problem I've come up against with GPP is that if a workstation doesn't have a network printer assigned to it but does have a local printer, it doesn't default to the local printer!

We have moved away from using CON2PRT script and I'm trying to do this completely with GPP, for the most part it is working except for this one network printer. The printers are user based but the Item Level Targeting is based on Computer OU.

Sorry I should have been clearer, currently in a couple of areas if a PC has a local USB connected printer it is ignored and the network printer that is attached at logon takes on the default role. It is ignoring the options to either not default it at all or just default when there isn't a local printer attached.

Hi all I am having a very similar problem. We are running Windows 2008 R2 SP1 server environment with Windows 7 Enterprise workstations and a forest/domain level of 2K8 R2. I have tried the various options with the GPP and even setting it to not default the printer if a local printer exists hasn't made any difference. Thanks

Morning all My manager has been thinking about ways to get all our school taken pictures online, sports events that kind of thing. Has anyone done this already and have any particular advice? We were thinking about a basic web gallery program hosted on a server somewhere that we can use different accounts to update or view etc. Thanks

Morning all We recently updated the Bursars/Accounts department computers to Windows 7 and Office 2010, and unsurprisingly there are a few teething problems. Mainly with Office. The accountant has previously been using pivot tables to extract data from Pass and then do her accounts. Pivot tables work mostly without a problem, the issue comes up when she wants to do totals for sections of the data, e.g 45 34 23 1 5 Total 108 12 14 10 6 7 Total 49 Normally to get the total for each section the accountant would select the appropriate cells and hit autosum, all nice and easy. With the newer version of Office this doesn't work the same way, what we now get is: 45.00 34.00 23.00 1.00 5.00 Total 108.00 216.00 171.00 137.00 114.00 113.00 Total 108.00 Because it is in a table Autosum will now use Subtotal but it picks up a funny range, if you convert the table to a normal range of cells you can do the totals without any problem. The accountant needs the data to be in a pivot table so she can refresh it directly from the database. Has anyone encountered this? Thanks
