Hi all

Is anyone else having problems with 4od only playing the adverts then it just sits there with a blank screen without any error messages. Very helpful

then when the user goes to the 4od website again the play button on the videos is missing.

Flash java and shockwave fully up to date.

The machine have just been reimaged also.

checked internet filtering

its just weird that the adverts play but the content does not.

we are using the YHGFL grid

any ideas would be great

We're on YHGFL and it works fine here, I think ad video's run from a different address though, we have an issue with IMDB trailers where the advert plays but the screen just goes black after that...

Have you asked for it unblocking?

They are still working on the problem and I'll have an update after a meeting on Friday. 4oD have to change how they do some stuff ... but it looks to be a considerable change for them and I can understand they don't want to rush it and make all materials open all over the world!

Sheesh ... we didn't finish the meeting until late (and spending time having a life ... or at least playing WoW anyway).

Yes, 4oD have done some work but it is still not complete ... and seems to have dried up a bit, however it is being chased up on Tuesday. It is a geo-taggin issue ... and adverts and content are pulled from two different systems so that is why we have a problem (as do a few other areas which have proxies set up in a similar fashion).

5player is now just requiring some whitelisting.

Here on HGfL (Hillingdon) which lonks to LGfL we have the same problem.

Would be good for a fix, if one is available.

reported the problem to channel4 before reading the thread.

below is the reply for a laugh: (I did tell them we were a school going through a LGFL connection)

Thank you for your email regarding 4oD.

Thank you for your e-mail. We are very sorry to read that you have hada problem using the 4oD service.

We are aware that some users are having difficulties when watching some of our programmes and that this problem seems to be worse at peak times. Our technical teams have been looking into this as a matter of urgency and they think they have traced it to some specific technical issues coping with very high demand on our video delivery platforms.

If you are experiencing slow loading times, attempting the following steps may help you gain access to the video;

*Refresh your Internet browser (Press F5) *Turn off your computer and reboot again after 1 min *Power off your internet broadband modem for 30 seconds and then power It back on again.

Should problems persist, attempt to use 4oD during off peak hours as this may help improve your viewing experience.

We are working hard to solve these problems, so please keep trying and we apologise for the inconvenience this has caused you.

If you require further information, feel free to email me back or visit Channel 4 FAQs

Regards,

I reported it to 4OD a few months back as was having the same problem. They sent me an email similar to yours, only ours was banging on about firewalls and adding rules and such like..... "errr, no! I think I'll just go without thank you very much!"

Yeah ... the problem is that even when WE contact the 4oD team we get the standard response to start with ...

Work is still ongoing and people are being prodded. It has been raised at a national level to take into account the number of RBCs / LAs affected ...

In a similar fashion 5player is still ongoing too. We know the fix and are just waiting for someone to action it!

Massive necro/bump!

Just had a teacher in about this, I recall seeing a bulletin from LGfL saying channel4 needed to change something but we still seem to be unable to watch 4od content (bar ads).

We're in LGfL (Havering), has any LA/School made any progress with this issue?

oops ... sorry, not done an update for a while.

The position as mentioned in this thread http://www.edugeek.net/forums/windows/42596-4od-player-embc-4.html still stands. Today's regional tech meeting for EMBC was cancelled due to some places still being impassable so I don't have any more of an update other than C4 know they need to make some code changes and they are not simple ones either. If I get a better update soon I will post it to both threads.

Hot off the press today (In the EMBC tech meeting atm) is that Synetrix spoke with C4 yesterday ... who have turned round and said "yeah ... we know it still doesn't work ... waiting for our providers to do stuff ... should have news next week" but we are still pushing ...

This is still a problem for a number of RBCs and ISPs ...
