What are the oldest PCs you still use on your network?

I'm just in the process of replacing a load of 10 year old PII machines with win98 COA stickers on them.

They we're made by Centrex and are indestructible. In the 8 years I've been here not one has died.

Boot up and logon can take between 10-30 minutes depending on Windows and antivirus updates.

So it could take almost a whole period to logon then, staff here do their nut at our P3's and they only take around 4 minutes. I don't think the staff would even bother using them if they were any slower.

Some staff still use 1.8GHZ P4 Stone machines with 256mb RAM and 20 / 30 / 40 GB hard drives.

The trouble with our older machines (Including the earlier 2.8GHZ P4s) is the hard drives are crap and therefore slow the entire systems down! They can quite happily run XP, but then stick on network client, AV, office suite, email client, updates etc etc and they go like treacle!

Our Finance team were over the moon when their new machines went in! I'm over the moon at how compact base units are getting as they're easy to transport between buildings now without feeling like I'm lifting weights at the gym :D

Upgrade the RAM from 256 to 1024 and those PC's will get a massive speed increase!!!

Memory always makes a massive difference. I have a PC at home just for the internet, it's a Duron 1100 and had 256Mb RAM I was about to get rid of it as it was really slow but I came accross 1Gb of RAM I had spare it has a new lease of life now.

On my home network; slowest server is a windows 2000 DC with 300MHz PIII with 256MB RAM, slowest workstations ia a 900MHz PIII with 1024MB RAM i think.

At work slowest server is 2.8GHz dual Xeon with 2024MB RAM. Fastest is 2*4 core Xeon @ 3GHzish with 4GB i think.

Our email server must be based on one of the earliest Celeron chips (1998/1999?) running Windows NT and mail server software nobody seems to have heard of. Good job we only have a handful of users on it. I'm actually scared to reboot in case it doesn't come back on! I can't wait to retire it.

To be fair though, out of all the servers it probably gives me the least amount of trouble!
