The links are individual and if passed out invalidate your agreement with MS.

Ok thanks but I take it the download option is in the email?

Maybe that should say "has anyone got the download link" YET! (lol)

Yes but it'll be a clean install....it wont carry anything over.

Thanks - this clean install, will it allow me to do a clean install with the given download though? I'm obviously guessing so.

Also, how does this work for VLK editions of XP? I've got a VLK copy of Win XP Pro on my works laptop - will this still upgrade ok?

The media for Win 7 in ISO format is universal so for example 64bit Pro can be used to install Ultimate 64bit Pro 64bit etc

All you have to do is modify a file in the ISO and select version - Retail or OEM - VL or not.

Not sure if im allowed to post the exact method.

But what about the licensing/activation? Will it realise XP is VLK, and will it stop the installation. Or will it not even care?

It shouldnt even care, my ISO (from MSDN) gave me upgrade and fresh install no matter what options I choose in the config file. The only time it matters is when its an OEM distro that requires a certificate and a relevent BIOS table.

So long as you have the key to match its fine.

Looks like i got a key for w7 ultimate!! which is why it wont work for pro . . .

still on with m$ to try and get this sorted!

So just change the ISO and install Ultimate?
