For that little I wouldnt worry at all. Besides you dont want to join us every Jan doing our tax returns, its not a fun process, esp if its for a second 'income' and your messing with NI too

ViVo had some major issues at the start of term and have been as we are told under some major upgrade works, upgrading servers etc etc, so maybe your widget needs updating with any new settings?

Okie dokie people anyone here looked into the new Google Classrooms service much yet? Thoughts on it? I've not had time to look into it yet but its on my list for the next few weeks as a must. Looks like a damn good service for Google Apps for Education schools thanks, Lewis

If you work in a school much of the data generated either by staff or students has laws about it being kept for x amount of time. You should have a policy in place for the roll/over deletion of the data or confidential removal of the paperwork year on year. thanks,

Hello, interesting bit of kit. I notice on the website it mentions integration with various 3rd party apps such as the Google Apps stuff. Any experience with this aspect of the system? thanks, Lewis

now that sounds great. I might take you up on the offer for the code to be dug out but not yet as very early days here and more putting the feelers out to see whats possible and whats not, or at least much harder to achieve. thanks, lewbob

Hello people, Moodle has been raised again here to look at. We are a Google school so not sure how it would intergrate into the current systems, or if Moodle would live on its own totally alone.. Super early days so as I google search and go through the wealth of information here on thought I'd ask just in case anyone has been in a similar situation. thanks, Lewbob

Hello, Any advice on what people use as cheap and cheerful camcorders that have a simple drag and drop style for getting the footage off the camcorder. The biggest issue we have with our current kit is that we have to use Pixela or sdcopy to transfer the videos and it takes upwards of 15mins to do this on the larger projects. Any advice or suggestions on what people are using appreciated thanks, lewbob

Any one here set anything like this up. Kids walk in, hit a button and record a message. We can of course do this relatively easily and already have a nice programmable USB button for kids to hit for recording. However thought I'd use good ole edugeek to ask for opinions on best video capture software to use, any experience from your guys and gals in this area, in particular anything to avoid! thanks, lewbob

Random guess as I cannot get to our Apple TV units at the moment but is it a case of critical updates and then optional ones?

Hello everyone. I am after some advice, examples or ideas on how best to get a good solution for a cookery room. At present we have an Hitachi EDX series projector in the room which is working. However its covered in a good few mm of what amounts to fat, its impossible to clean and I'd hate to think what the innards look like. So any ideas on how best to solve this problem with busy cookery rooms. The room in question is due for a refit and we would like to better equip it techno wise so the new stuff doesnt end up like the current projector. Would a Modern TV work better as it wouldn't have to be slung to the ceiling. Any ideas or comments appreciated thanks, Lewbob

Ahh I see. Well that does indeed look like an anywhere net version. However if you really want to be sure just contact them via email or phone. Ive emailed them and a few other providers before, they were helpful and great for definitive answers. Also noticed on the site it mentions seamless intergration with the student book ,which may be a component of active teach so might be worth you asking about that too.

Hello, our stie will shortly be a split site and so a booking system for the growing number of cameras etc is becoming more and more important. Do you chaps and chap'ets have any suggestions for ideally free solutions? We have a bunch of cameras, laptops and etc etc that can be used through out the school but keeping track of them can be a nightmere, The current issue is that it all goes through me at the moment so if I am not at my desk and out on a job across site then the whole system falls apart. It would be great if there was a central database or somesuch so any member of the ict support team can easily log stuff in and out. thanks LewBob

Hello, having a few issues with the British library website and being able to play streamed vids. We have a few netowrk upgrades upcoming that may resolve the issue and the teachers happy. However ideally I would like to be able ot offer a short term solution. So, I was thinking if the teacher just told me which clips she needed for the dept int he short term I could download said clips and pass them along. Having issues with being able to do this, any ideas? Here is an example; Accents and dialects of the UK Any ideas, and or advice? thanks, LEWBOB

Another vote for the above here. The Sahara kits, simply work, have everything included for easy installation.

Recommend me a class-set of video cameras...
lew_bob replied to enjay's topic in AV and Multimedia Related
If its GCSE or lower then you can get away with things like the Samsung ES17. A stills camera that can take video to good quality + simple usb interface with easy copy/paste and no silly software. Staff love them here, stills + video and easy so anyone can use it as its just a usb stick when plugged in (CC4 school btw). Only our media dpt has anything better really and even they say that at the moment the quality these things give out is plenty good enough for what kids are asked to do at a GCSE level. -
Radio room software solutions advice
lew_bob replied to lew_bob's topic in AV and Multimedia Related
Hello Marc, thankyou for the response. Yes I must admit we found Sam Broadcaster a few mins after posting. We have since been playing with the demo. The software seems to be ideal for our needs. Have you had any issues with it, are there any do's and dont's, hints and or tips on getting the best out of it? Must admit the basics are pretty straight forward, just wondering about any querks of the program. thanks, LewBob -
Hello, Having a little bit of a search for radio room software. I would be interested to hear what other high schools are currently providing. We want a simple solution for a small room. I think the generally idea is to eventually produce .mp3's that I can upload to website for podcast downloads as opposed to any live streaming. thanks, Lewbob

Had a meeting today with someone. Must say second time around things seem much clearer and the presentation was a hell of a lot better! I got some free test play logins to play around with.

Hey chaps and chap'ets, need a bit of help. I 'd like our VLE to have student areas with info on clubs and general student fun stuff to do, also one for staff. We currently use uniservity and I can do this with this system dispite it being so damn bad and slow. I have seen RM displayed, but when I asked RM about things such as teachers having there subject areas to upload stuff, ie history clips for history, history latest news, trips etc all the things that makes VLE's fun for actual children the RM guys stared blankly back at me without seeming to know anything other than 'spaces' a strange Idea that seems to take all the fun out of VLE's. Basicly we want the VLE to the be half website and be quite dynamic, being regulary updated with the latest news, visual things etc etc etc. Any help, advice?

Sounds interesting, and I wonder how VLE's potentially already fill this. I get the impression FROG is a little like this already? the social FB kinda approach to a VLE??

PLE?

updating some VLE stuff and get a few rough prices sorted for a few projects with Balck Adder on the head phones. Just wish these annoying children would stop asking for password changes,
