jason2234 Posted January 14, 2010 Posted January 14, 2010 i spoke to soon forensic are updating now for me very quick
sonic1485 Posted January 14, 2010 Posted January 14, 2010 We got updated yesterday. Everything seems to be running smooooooth
bmdixon Posted January 14, 2010 Posted January 14, 2010 that url is right, but you can't view anything. I spoke to Paul yesterday and it was updated in less than 5 minutes. Not sure what he did though....
techie08 Posted January 29, 2010 Posted January 29, 2010 How's everyone getting on with the update? ours is on 3.0.0.9 and I had the ICT teacher come to me today and say that expo electro was hanging for about half the class. When they log out of expo and back in again its fine. This is the same symptoms of what was happening before with IE although this time doesn't appear to be crashing it just doesn't display alot of the page. Also a report of some of the stations just log out randomly but not sure if this can again be put down to Policy Central!!
bmdixon Posted January 29, 2010 Posted January 29, 2010 It definitely seems better but i'm not sure it's completely fixed either.... had a few occasions where it seems to have 'hung' ie but closing it down and re-opening it works. Sometimes a refresh works. Not had any issues with random loggoffs...
AndyNDuffy Posted January 29, 2010 Posted January 29, 2010 We seem to be OK. The update doesnt seem to have updated the MSI so we have to install a previous version first then let PCE update itself. At the moment we are rolling it out bit by bit so we dont get everyone upset at the same time. - Anyone else found this? Cheers Andy

Michael Posted January 29, 2010 Posted January 29, 2010 I've found zero problems with PCE 3.0.0.9 to date, but by all means feedback to Forensic if you can re-create the problem.
Michael Posted February 2, 2010 Posted February 2, 2010 Yes, you should be running 3.0.0.9 by now. A small tip I can offer for those that use BGInfo is open logoff.bgi (typically in your NETLOGON share), then to the right click Custom > New, name the Identifier as Policy Central, then choose Version information for a file. Specify the Path as: C:\WINDOWS\system32\PCENT\PCClient.exe Now add the field to your wallpaper. It should display like this: Policy Central: Now when the machine processes a logon or when a user logs off, the wallpaper is refreshed so you can see the version installed. This means you can walk past many machines knowing Policy Central is installed (notifying the user) but also notifying the Network Manager that you're running 3.0.0.9
mattpant Posted February 2, 2010 Posted February 2, 2010 Hi Guys, We are now running PCE Version 3.0.0.9, after what first appeared to be all working correctly, I'm getting complaints still that the "internet" is still hanging and locking up. I even have a suite of machines that I holded off installing PCE until a fix came out that worked fine with no problems, when version 3.0.0.9 came out, I installed and now I'm getting lots of complains about the internet not working properly, very slow/hanging on these machines. I've contacted PCE and alerted them about this but we appear to be the only school, (we were told this originally when I phoned about the problem over 6 months ago!) Reading a post a little higher up it does not appear to be jsut us... Is anybody else having similar issues? Are machines are using IE7/8, we also have Sophos installed (version 9) and the PCE/PCENT files have been added to exclussion. Tested with FireFox and all is fine, unistall PCE from a test machine and all is fine in IE, reinstall PCE and start getting the issues again. Not very happy at the mo, thought we'd finally got to the bottom of it all, but seem to be in the same boat. This has been going on for far to long now. Just incase anybody posts.... the clients have definately updated to the new version, not still running the old one!! Thanks Matt

Thanks Matt Same here!!!! i phoned up forensic who said they are not experiencing any other people with the issues. Im in 2 minds now on if i should just remove PCE completely from the network! we Use Expo here and all that does it hang. Also OWA is affected.
robknowles Posted February 8, 2010 Posted February 8, 2010 Hello, We too are experiencing issues with it again after having Policy Central off the network for some considerable time. I've just logged a support call with Foresnic, and have just uninstalled from all workstations - they are working fine now. Just wondering if it's anything to do with that recent IE Patch that Microsoft released outside their normal cycle? We have IE 7. Thanks, Rob
sonic1485 Posted February 8, 2010 Posted February 8, 2010 Is anyone having issues with it not blocking sites that it should be doing in the blocked list? We had this issue with 3.0.0.8 and had a remote session where they put a pre-release of the new patch on the machines and it worked like a charm! Now we have the full release and it's gone back to it's old ways. Haven't had any problems with IE crashing though.... yet:p
bmdixon Posted February 8, 2010 Posted February 8, 2010 Yeah, it blocks youtube on some machines but not others... was told .9 would sort it but it hasn't. Haven't had chance to report it yet but will do...
Michael Posted February 8, 2010 Posted February 8, 2010 As far as I am concerned Policy Central 3.0.0.9 works fine with the January 2010 IE patch on IE7 and IE8. It's a shame some people are still experiencing problems. Still I've maintained Firefox on the networks I support for these very reasons

Now we have the full release and it's gone back to it's old ways. Haven't had any problems with IE crashing though.... yet:p Yes, now you mention it, I tried blocking a website the other day to stop the 6th Form wasting time playing a game, but it doesn't appear to have been blocked as they can still access it, and the site doesn't show up as red in the console like other blocked sites do when they are accessed. Glad it's not only us that are having problems. It does annoy me a little when your told on the phone that nobody else is having the problems but when you read posts on hear it's quite clear that they and have been reported to them. Matt
alan-d Posted February 10, 2010 Author Posted February 10, 2010 I was beginning to think it was just some of our clients that were playing up and crashing IE but it seems to be a wider problem. We also have a problem with some clients not blocking web sites. I thought that was just our setup as we also have issues with writing anything in the History log since 3.0.0.8 which I hoped 3.0.0.9 would fix, but it didn't. Time to bring in Forensics I think.
DevilsAdvocate Posted February 10, 2010 Posted February 10, 2010 We also have an issue here with certain websites not blocking. Most odd! Thought it was our flash exclusion list at first, but now other people seem to be mentioning it..maybe it's not.
laserblazer Posted February 26, 2010 Posted February 26, 2010 Our ICT Coordinator has just emailed me to say I'm going on a 2 hour course next month and that we have to have Policy Central in place before the VLE goes on-line. Is the IE problem anything we should worry about? What's the general feeling about the its effectiveness?
sonic1485 Posted February 26, 2010 Posted February 26, 2010 The IE thing doesn’t seem to be a problem anymore on our site. It's just blocking sites that we are having problems with. It's a good piece of software when it works and it's good to receive notifications to your email when it detects someone doing something naughty. 1
Alis_Klar Posted March 10, 2010 Posted March 10, 2010 Sorry if this is off topic Great Idea, very poorly implemented 1. Reporting Interface Stinks. Why must I squint through a massive drop down list of reports. Please categorise them Hierarchically. 2. Setting up recipients for e-mailed reports is poorly implemented 3. IE Problems

IE Problems True, but there seems to be very little in the way of alternatives that are comparable or better on such a large scale. Now the IE issues are resolved its great, it works and has very little impact on the user experience.
DevilsAdvocate Posted March 11, 2010 Posted March 11, 2010 I didn't expect it to work properly, but PCE just crashes on our Windows 7 builds. Are there really NO alternatives to this software? It's truly pants IMO.

It's truly pants IMO. There isn't a windows 7 client yet.... there is supposedly a new version coming out soon that supports windows 7 but until then you're best off removing it. Even the vista client doesn't work.
