I am the opposite. I like that word, as it has been reclaimed by feminists. It has to be used in the right way though...

Management speak buzz words in general, in particular touch base and the use of 'action' as a verb.

 

I find the addition of -ise/-isation (or rather ize/-ization) to nouns annoying. Generally when this happens, there are perfectly good words already in existence, people just can't be bothered to think of them. I remember almost slitting my wrists when I read the instructions for a stopwatch which told me how to "zeroise" it - took me a moment to realise that they meant "reset"!

 

I do find myself using some of these words though. Grr.

 

Another current irritation of mine is things like "I'm going to give it 150%". I fully understand how 150% is possible, as an expression of growth for example, but not as an expression of commitment/effort/etc.

Combine it with used and you can barely say it without feeling like you need a wash.

 

Personally my biggest grudge is the word 'like' when used as slang like, you know, when you like, don't like know what to like say because your like brain needs these like pauses to get the like words in order.

 

Ten minutes of that should be considered reasonable grounds for homicide.
