  1. Just a long shot, but does anyone know of a supplier that has the ribbons for this machine. They are not made by Sharp any longer so I am trying to find a supplier that may still have stock. Thanks.
  2. M25 or M40?
  3. Here we go again!! More costs dumped on schools - we only moved to SQL2005 18 months ago and what a pain that was. At least we get a few years out of MS before being forced to spend more on upgrades. How long before we have to move to next generation 64 bit server? Why do we just lay down and accept this? We already pay massive amounts to use this MIS!
  4. Who remembers Prestel? Nope -it is not a sweetie made by Mars!
  5. Ah, the songs of the ZX81 are re-awakened. I still look ay my ZX Spectrum now and again - the nostalgia of mispent youth!
  6. Redundancy. Makes you feel totally worthless doesn't it?
  7. Another generous offer to schools from MS. Time for a Linux course and Sun Open Office perhaps?
  8. Has this been resolved yet as we have this problem? Thanks
  9. The KKS application runs and so does the KKS service, so I assume it is not using the OpenVPN service. When I stop the OpenVPN service, the Network Cable unplugged pop up appears. When I start the OpenVPN service, this error repeats regularly, as an IP address is acquired and lost again.
  10. We were told UDP both ways on 1194. Our LEA has advised that this was a global implementation in anticipation of many schools using LG. We were also told to request a link to a secure remote IP but I don't know if that was applied at firewall level and whether it is significant. I would have thought that a secure VPN would need trusted IP addresses at both ends?
  11. Thanks for the replies. I have tried to comprehend the documentation but have to admit that I do not have the required skills in PHP nor Mysql. I will try another scratch install to see if I can make progress. The dblogin and password are where I could not find guidance. I will try PhpMydmin to change the authentication.
  12. We have one person on this task - there is no way that we can get round more often without more staff. And is that going to happen? I think not!
  13. Yes, we have a cleaning schedule to esnure that we get around at least once a term. We have 650 clients of which 280 are laptops. The latter are cleaned when we repair them.
  14. This is a request for help from any PHP/Mysql novice who has managed to set up MRBS. I have installed WAMP (latest) and followed the MRBS set up documentation but I cannot connect to the database - 'fatal error - cannot connect to database'. I am using login=root and password=' ' as I cannot find any passwords in the mysql documentation. If I leave the config.inc.php unchanged, the error is even longer and refers to a mysql function error. Also, if I run the tables.my.sql query in sqladminlite to create the tables, that fails with errors and does not create the tables. I was hoping for an easy install but my hopes were dashed! Thanks.
  15. This is what happens when you google MOOdle !! Oh well, no MOOS is good MOOS.
  16. Got my Mrs a belly dancing kit. Still got the slap marks on my chops!!
  17. Can't get NOVA T4 or T6 to work without full access rights for those staff that use NOVA.
  18. How do you determine 'best'? For us, Netmedia provides an easy to use interface for all stakeholders. It is low cost and yes it does have its downsides, but overall, as a managed service, it does what it says on the tin.
  19. To set the favourites button on: User Configuration | Administrative Templates | Windows Components / Internet Explorer /Toolbars
  20. This is my excuse for not installing it.
  21. Sadly, this is a sign of the general malaise in society - if it's not mine, why should I care if it gets trashed. I have replaced 8 teacher laptop screens this term at a cost of £175 each. Of course, I am expected to supply a replacement whilst repairs take place and it all comes out of my budget - individuals and departments are not impacted in the least. We repair at least 6 or 7 student laptop keyboards every day - missing keys. It's strange, I have my own laptop at home and keys never leap off and disappear!
  22. The Powerchute application allows you to manage the UPS. This includes data on battery status and also allows you to perform tests. Usually, the software allows you to ensure a graceful closedown of the servers. The server bank and the switch are connected to our UPS.
  23. Without choosing which side of the fence to fall on, can I say: 1. FFS!! encourages rants. If one works in isolation, an outlet for frustration and stress is welcome. If we can't accept that, then FFS!! should go. 2. If it is on telly, in the papers and on the internet, it is part of the 'English' language. 3. We must treat each other with respect - as professionals. 4. Probably something else here but as a free bus pass holder, it has slipped my mind! Let's get back to enjoying this great forum!!
  24. Ditto. I do use one sometimes to troubleshoot issues specific to laptop users - wifi connectivity, whiteboards and GPO restrictions, etc.
