Permanent marker on Promethean board!

Hi all,

 

Supply teacher has just written the date onto the promethean board with a permanent marker!!! Any suggestions on how to remove it without damaging the board?

Had this happen in a primary school, should be okay with CyberNerd's recommendation and a soft cloth!

 

But don't let the supply teacher off so lightly!

With a permanent marker or a normal board marker? what is a permanent marker doing in the class room?

 

If it truly is a permanent marked then some isopropyl from your science dept will remove it.

 

If it's normal whiteboard marker some hard surface cleaner from your caretaker will do it.

I use this

not just to get permanent marker off but to give them a clean every month

We dont have a science department

 

And we have the Durable stuff Ozzy but it isn't shifting it.

 

As to why a permanent marker is in the classroom by the IWB i don't know.

 

More annoyed at the Y6s for just sitting back and watching her do it.

Silly suggestions, but you might be more likey to have these, Aftershave or Lynx deodorant will do it.

Try a drywipe marker over the top of the permanent ink - works for us.

I bought a large bottle of Isopropyl alcohol from my local chemists. Give them a try

this might sound daft but aftershave or perfume on a cloth will work I've done that before, with my own Hugo Boss no less!!

The blood of the teacher diluted three parts to one with their tears.

 

I used to hate it when this happened. We had one teacher do it three times to the same board. The second time we confiscated their pens, so they went out and bought more to do it again. Usually it was a one-off though, when people didn't realise they were interactive boards.

 

It'll definitely be worth your while keeping a bottle of isopropyl alcohol, or foam cleaner or similar on hand. These incidents seem to come in batches.

We have used hair spray in the past and this worked fine.

Brasso also works, gets marker pen off any surface like that, we use it on PC's quite a bit and also whiteboards in the office when we have picked the wrong pen up.

Agree with the suggestion that you go over it with a dry-wipe pen because they contain a solvent to make the mark come off. Sooner done the better.

 

I use isopropyl alcohol a lot for cleaning. I even drop a 50/50 mix of IPA and cider vinegar in my ears after swimming to clear trapped water and prevent infection.

Also if all esle fails try chewing gum remover but be very careful do no put direct on board but on a cloth and use only tiny amount as otherwise could damage the board.

I went to Promethean's Website and copied the following out of the Activboard Instruction Manual:

 

Maintenance & Cleaning

Do not use abrasive powders, soap, detergents or petroleum

based cleaners or solvents on the ACTIV board surface.

Scratches cannot be repaired or removed and will make ink

and stain removal in that area difficult. Do not use metal

brushes, scrapers or abrasive cleaning cloths.

The surface of the ACTIV board is made to very high standards of durability. In

normal use you can expect satisfactory results every time with proper

maintenance.

Due to the high quality of projection surface it is not recommended that dry

wipe markers are used on a regular basis. If, however, the surface needs

cleaning after the use of such markers, we recommend the following methods:

• For normal dry wipe markers use Sanford Expo Towelettes 81850.

Do not use a board rubber.

• For permanent markers use Sanford spray cleaner 81803.

You should be able to obtain these products from an office supplies company.

A polish with standard household spray polish will restore the smooth writing

surface after cleaning.

I've used ethanol from the science department before now but be careful as too much can cause the surface to go yellow. We had the same member of staff do it twice to the same board two days running even though I confiscated the perm marker the first time!
