I said I wasn't going to watch the match but I did

and the famous Wombat jinx came into play

 

either that or ITWitch thought the Portugese players were the ones playing in white.

Ah come off it guys :D

 

It may be a little sad that people cry because we lost a game, but you have to show a little patriotism, after all, it is your country that is being represented :D

 

I was quite depressed for about two hours after we lost, but I soon recovered.

 

Going along with the crowd in this one also gets rid of the 'geek' image that people tend to hold about IT Technicians, not that I really care about that, haha.

We've just got to put up with the obligatory day-long discussion about the match at work on Monday... "such-and-such played well didn't he", "we should have had that goal!!", "England played well I thought", "Did you see that at the 76th minute?!? Man that was good/awful/brilliant football!!!!1" :roll: :lol:

I can see where you are coming from, but I have always love patriotism. I -love- the England flags on all the cars and hanging down from people's windows. I love the fact that went walking through the city centre after we won a match that everyone was singing English songs in the street. I just feel we don't have enough of this in our country...

Yeah suppose the patriotism is OK, it's just football that doesn't interest me. It's only a game! :p

 

and in other news: Today marked the 90th aniversary of the battle of the Somme

 

I guess you're right Craig. There are more important things in the world other than football, even for patriots.

Yesterday was the 90th anniversery of the first Day of the Battle of The Somme. Nearly 20000 British soldiers died that day.

 

Yesterday England lost a football match and left the world cup.

 

Which event was considered the most important?

I am a patriot ... a Royalist ... and proud of my Irish heritage.

 

When it comes to supporting teams I follow the Irish for football (followed by England and whoever is playing the Scottish) and England for rugby (followed by the Irish and whoever is playing the Scottish).

 

I celebrate both St George's Day and St Patrick's Day ... and love Wimbledon, the Proms, Terry Wogan, The Dubliners Farewell Tour ("and this time we mean it ..."), The Saw Doctors 'it's not a comeback tour because we were never away' tour ...

 

I hate the fact that Merkins all suddenly become Irish one day a year because they once walked into a bar that had *O'* in the name, I hate that celebrating the English in me becomes jingoistic, but celebrating the Irish in me is 'announcing my heritage'.

 

I believe in The Commonwealth, in the Duty of The Nobility, in British system of awards and honours ... I know that they are partly rewards for service and duty but also partly political rewards for duty and service ... what bothers me is that they now can be openly bought and sold by certain people ...

 

I believe that the justice system has been perverted by politicians to protect the guilty (in fear of being couter sued) and that judicial review is limited and oppressed.

 

I believe that those in service to our countries should be supported ... whether they be the serving military forces ... the emergency services (and yes ... there is a 4th emergency service ... it is called Search and Rescue and is based around the coast guard, the lifeboat services, mountain and cave rescue and external paramedics ... not a bloody commercial road rescue company that isn't even polite to you when they turn up anymore!) and volounteer services. We should honour the work they do and be thankful that it is them out there ... doing a good job under rough conditions and generally because they both want to do it.

 

I believe the children are our future. Teach them well and let them lead the way ...

The only down side of England being out, is that there won't be 3 hour long stretches of empty roads for me to drive on. Swindon - Southampton in about an hour yesterday evening. Going briskly, but not excecivly, absoloutely nothing else about!

The only advantage in my case is that I have less work to do at work. Our headteacher wanted all our projectors taken down each friday and put up again each monday until England are knocked out (so no-one gets tempted to steal one over the weekened).

 

As they are now out... it need no longer happen lol.

And it appears to have been pretty short lived. I heard on the news that the RAC had clear up loads of discarded flags from the M2 motorway.

 

They should have left them there and let Wayne Rooney pick them up as part of his ASBO.

I was at alton towers on saturday, and they had to go and make it busy by showing the match on the big screens!!!

 

We thought it would be a lot quieter than it was, then again, it was quiet comparatively to peak time!

 

Had a good sunday at the MotoGp aswell, next up touring cars on the 30th.
