SYNACK Posted May 16, 2009 Posted May 16, 2009 Earlier this week we learned that Microsoft would be giving out the Office 2010 Technical Preview to select testers on an invite-only basis. In January, screenshots of the alpha (then still codenamed Office 14) were leaked a week after select testers got them. This time, testers don't even have the Technical Preview yet, but new screenshots have already arrived (see below). Office 2010 will be available in 32-bit and 64-bit, and both flavors have been leaked. It looks as though the next version of Office will look simmilar to 2007 but with a more unified experience due to Publisher finally getting the ribbon UI. EduTech Posted May 16, 2009 Posted May 16, 2009 Yeah i agree setup and menus are very identical, which should make it easier for staff/students to switch. as at the moment it is pretty difficult to make the jump as 2003/2007 look totally different. James.

BrianG Posted May 16, 2009 Posted May 16, 2009 I love the way Outlook is coming on. I certainly look of Word too, even down to the shading behind the page. It's nice to see them putting a bit of sparkle into their office package, they added some with 2007 but it never felt like it was really there, 2010 seems to have done it. I've been using 2007 for a while and I find it very easy to use and very productive, the ribbon, once you're used to it is a real time saver

I made the mistake of upgrading my laptop to 2007 right before I was due to write my dissertation. Once you get the hang of it though it is actually pretty decent.

It also a training nightmare the trasition between most verstion of world has been progressive not a jump this jump is like going from wordstar to word!! 2007 is required if you are to full use a MOSS stratergy. arHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!

Our archaic staff had no problem, apart from one solitary teacher, adapting and picking up 2007 with the minimal of training.

Michael Posted May 17, 2009 Posted May 17, 2009 I wonder if Microsoft have learnt lessons from updating and deploying Office 2007? You cannot slipstream files in Office 2007, but MSP files can be installed when setup is complete. It would be nice if a standard MSI was made available too!
RabbieBurns Posted May 19, 2009 Posted May 19, 2009 just installed the technical preview for a look about. Took ages to upgrade from 2007. Complaining about not enough memory to load word and excel. Beta's are great. Gonna turn on paging and see if that makes a difference. Woulda thought 2gb would be enough.. Outlook is using 160mb at the moment. Will report more soon.
RabbieBurns Posted May 19, 2009 Posted May 19, 2009 (edited) is this even meant to be useable heh. Uninstalled, reinstalled, still getting the same errors. Powerpoint, access, publisher, onenote, infopath work OK, Outlook loads but wont let you read messages. But Excel and Word just dont work at all. Ah well, that passed a few hours. RabbieBurns Posted May 20, 2009 Posted May 20, 2009 Works great on the same machine in a virtual windows 7 VM. With half the ram of the host! Gonna install it now in a XP SP3 VM to see if it works, and then try to figure out what might be causing it to break on the existing xp install. I thought it might be adobe pdf maker plugin but Ive disabled that and it still doesnt work. Anyone else got nothing better to do and having a play?
RabbieBurns Posted May 20, 2009 Posted May 20, 2009 Ok well it installs and runs like a dream on a fresh XP SP3 install. Word / Excel open up in under 3 seconds. I wonder what caused it to fubar on my original XP install. Maybe I should have uninstalled office 2007 first and then installed 2010. I will keep playing
