Working in a school

Counting down the months to the 5 year marker - April 2010 - then I get an extra 5 days holiday each year

 

If only I could find the time to take all 22days I'm given at the moment

Total, including volunteer stuff at the beginning 15 years in various schools including several that I was attending at the time. That is more than half my current life span. Eeek

2 years this July, started right after I graduated from uni

Some days it feels like I only just arrived, other days it feels like I've been here forever!

2 years next month as Network Manager in my present consortium of primary schools.

 

Prior to this:

19 months as Network Manager comprehensive school

5 months relaxing after redundancy

8 years 2 months as Chief Technician Computing and Video then Chief Technician Computing then Virtual Reality and Digital Studio Manager for a university

2 years 5 months as Senior Computer Technician for an FE college.

 

I keep thinking about moving out of education but for all its faults it not a bad job.

NM has been here almost double that!

I've worked in education for about 7 years, and had 3 years working for Wilts Constabulary IT dept.

what sort of things do you have to do i mean how big is your team and pc etc i'd find it very limiting

almost 6 years in two schools, 2 as NM.

 

Before that I was an apprentice at EDS in Swansea doing well, paperwork it seemed.

 

That was the problem with that job, no room for error and that is how i learn (Hence an extensive dev network for me to break!)

around 5 years in education here... coming up to 18 months at this school, 18 months with one of the bigger IT companies providing IT support/installations to schools all over the place and 2 years with a much smaller one which unfourtunatly went under

Me: 11 months

My NM: 15 years! Hard to imagine. Same school aswell. Crazy.

8 years 7 months. Although I moan, I love the variety and freedom. I get in by 6.20 am and usually leave at 3.30 pm but do a lot more stuff when I get home. I had planned to have retired by now but I know my wife would have me working much harder at home.

Been working in IT since I left college so 8 years this year (blimey!!)

I much prefer education as a sector.

Same here, except I'm not Team Leader and I'm happy about that.

 

8 years... where did the time go?

 

I'd say it's like a prison sentence but no free cable TV, no 3 square meals a day for free... none of those particular 'perks'.

I've been working here for 10 weeks now
