Don't leave it too late. I believe the FMS upgrade is required for year end.
moggy Posted March 25, 2009 Posted March 25, 2009 Wouldn't, say, a 19" screen or 21" screen running at 1024x768 provide the same sort of size as a smaller screen running at 800x600? The user has a 19inch screen. It makes no difference.

Ok, a 27" screen then. 800x600 is simply ridiculous now days, as no software will support it. Is it an actual medical reason that they require that size of image? Also, as they've got a 19" screen, what did they do when 15" screens were normal? 640x480?

Yeah, part of it is, but It's just SIMS I'm delaying, we're on November 08 (minimum SIMS req for FMS) and FMS is usually painless. There is a typo in the FMS release notes that says the FMS upgrade is dependent on a SIMS minimum version of November 08, but then has 7.116 in brackets immediately after.

Be nice to have a play ---- change password! i wish they could hide that :\ the staff have the ability to change there network passwords here and quite often the numptys forget what there typing in! all i need is for them to start doing that in SIMS as well... Won't know for sure until a couple of week when the teachers return and it starts getting hammered. Only took 5 minutes for someone to complain about the absence of the shortcuts to the aplications (nova etc) and how could they run them. Totaly failed to read the e-mail I had already sent detailing that they had gone, and where they had gone and how to setup new shortcuts. Don't know why I waste my copying and pasting from Supportnet skils.

Sylv3r Posted March 25, 2009 Posted March 25, 2009 I'm looking forward to the change in looks actually. The admin staff here will pick it up pretty quickly - the teaching staff don't use SIMS just the webparts for attendance, tracking etc so it doesn't affect them thankfully.

This was not planned! but we had an issue yesterday where everyone was getting Fatel Error's when logging on.. done Dbupdate etc along with the help from SMIS. no joy.. so bite the bullet and just installed the March update and everything worked again!! :| Crazy...

IMHO it's pretty stable so long as you've got good hardware.
Linfit Posted March 26, 2009 Posted March 26, 2009 (edited) One that may be significant is that Cover 7 will now deal correctly with exams; it takes exam rooms that have been scheduled and roomed and they appear in Cover and can be covered by appropriate staff. This was the key feature missing from the first release. There does seem to have been fewer issues than usual on Supportnet for this release; but I can't speak from direct experience because our LA support unit havn't authorised the download yet - they are being ultra cautious with this one it seems.... Our exams lady is having major slowdown issues when trying to seat kids, takes around 15 mins to save etc. Checked supportnet and their seems to be a patch, but it says this issue would be fixed in the March release, but it seems we got it from the March release. Strange, anyways we are waiting on a reply from SIMs
matt40k Posted March 30, 2009 Author Posted March 30, 2009 Load of people are using SQL 2005 Express when they should have paid and got MSSQL 2005 Standard (or Enterprise). Basically some things in FMS are rather heavy, same with exams, census. You add them all up, shove in some like lesson monitor and you wonder why your Quad Xeon, 4GB can't run, express only uses 1 core and 1gb ram. My advise, check your within Capita recommend spec, note, this is the min! So if any part is below, upgrade. If you're a secondary school, look at full SQL.

Assuming it's a dedi not one of this dual workstation\server rubbish. Look at 64bit, test first tho. 64bit doesn't have the problem with deal with more the 4gb ram, and only give 2.5GB to an application.
rasssp Posted March 30, 2009 Posted March 30, 2009 We have an ongoing issue with sql process using 90-100% cpu on 4 proccessors during registration times, capitia keep looking into it etc. still, 100 classroom registration machines logging in and taking registers at the sametime - fun
