Another update another call to support..

the old chestnut 'subquery returned more than 1 value' whenever I run a report... and they worked perfectly last week.

Think this could be the final straw, we pay these muppets to supply us with a tool that we can use for markettign our school but they seem oblivious to the module when updates are pushed out and end up runining it.... we were without it for 2 weeks last month and now god knows how long.

All the report has is the salutation and the address block with a UDF filter, EXACTLY THE SAME ISSUE I HAD BEFORE.

ANNNNNNNNNNNDDDDD the same issue that I was sent out a patch for last month has reappeared so now when we run a label run off none appear.

Absolutely brilliant, I will log a few cases and wait with baited breathe.. lets hope no one has corrupt systems or we will have to wait weeks again.

If we could we would dump this cr@p but its too costly.

I am fuming by the way..... oh and the new homepage is awful, who designed the swirls?

The new homepage is great, yes, the design (ie the images) or total rubbish, but I'll rather not pay for some nice photoshop work.

@Simcfc73

What? Can you post a copy of the report?

Lucky that they are the ones that have to use it then!

It could be worse - the grief we got when Tasc decided "the stupid owl" (as it's known hereabouts) should be on the PARS splashpage was something to behold.

Just playing with an upgrade to March on the test server now.

Hmm, I was told that we could set it up centrally based on the staff members roles and was given the impression this would be functional from the march release - it'd be a bit pointless to start setting it up centrally in june once everyones muddled through and got their screens as they like them. This was at the Sims south east(independent) user group meeting last thurs.

That's the most recent news so assume it's true.

I was told June at the Independent Schools Conference but that was back on 25th February.

Maybe Phil can give us an update. . . .but it's probably easier to just install it and try it.

To be honest, you should be glad you can get your staff to muddle through and set it up how they want. I need to push (force) it on staff as they are too 'busy' to do that sort of thing. They'll use the data, but only if i hand it to them.

After playing around with March on the test server, I'm also surprised that the homepage has been changed without including a means of setting decent defaults on a per group / school-wide basis.

"Here's a new feature, you'll have to wait until June before you can configure it?" Why weren't the two things developed at the same time?

Edit: And the "my classes today" bar doesn't fit in 1024x768* without closing the sidebar - why aren't the bar and panels set up to resize appropriately?

*yes, I have users with dodgy eyesight who still use 1024x768.

Click the two green arrows underneath Focus within SIMS .net

The fact it isn't set globally gives users a chance to decide what they want and generally fiddle and moan at the sysman when they say this is the default! :D:D

I've got it up and running on my laptop at the moment, the changes aren't too big to be honest, I just doubt many teachers will take the time to get the most out of the new features without being told all about it etc. I'm sure our secetary will like the late registrations panel though :)

The manual does say that "Careful Consideration should be given when adding new panels to the home page. A number of these panels have frequent refresh intervals, so a large number of panels displaying on several workstations could lead to performance issues, and all areas of SIMS may show a reduction in performance as a consequence." - this is going to be fun to deal with in a large school, any teachers that do decide to use the new features probably aren't going to be bothered about how many they add or how frequently they refresh themselves.

The only panel I can see with a configurable refresh interval is the "My Messages" one which allows the rate to be set at between 30 and 300 seconds.... defaulting to 30

I'd guess that an option to select the default panels will appear in the next few releases but role based allocation probably won't be possible until System Manager 7 turns up.

Just add to Phil point, you can add links to anything, within SIMS or on your computer, for example you can add link to Internet Explorer, Outlook or anything!

@Phil

You might want to make a post also about the pulsar.exe /START switch.

I don't get what is the point of keeping the Left Bar now... there's nothing on it - why keep it open?

We have shown staff how to add a shortcut to the school bulletin in the bar on the left.

Q) Why do that when there is a bulletin feature on the front page?

A) (polite version) The bulletin feature on the front page is too long-winded, unless it's been improved in March.

Well we ran it last nite, cover is broken and no longer opens.

Please say someone knows how to disable the change password option on the new login box!

The last things we need is our users changing passwords!

But isn't that going to undermine the New homepage with panels and defeat the object of it...

Methinks I'm going to install this on the spare SIMS system first (I have 2 SIMS servers for this reason).

Oh joy. Is this a default? Anyone got a quick screenshot of this so we can, ahem, warn staff? Not had the update released to us yet (next week I think)

Its just a simple tickbox under the login box, tick it and once you enter user and pass in it brings up a box to change password

Really? I think this is one of the best changes Capita have made in some time.

I was thinking that too!

We recently moved to trusted logons, so it uses their domain account instead. That way, the password is suitably complex (unlike any which you can set in SIMS) and changes every term.

We still have a user who has to have 800 x 600. Even the Sims login screen doesn't cater for that - can't see the username; if you want to change it you have to tab and hope you got it!

Wouldn't, say, a 19" screen or 21" screen running at 1024x768 provide the same sort of size as a smaller screen running at 800x600?

March hasn't broken anything here on the test server, but I'll give it a week in case there's something I've missed and keep an eye on the SIMS forums for tales of woe.
