Capita have told us we may need to goto sql enterprise as our db has outgrown the standard version. Also discussing the move to 2k3 x64 and sql 2005 x64. Any one have a list of advantages and disadvantages?

as we cant disable activex in office, the kids have now figured out that they can make word documents at home, drag in swf and exe files into word, or add them through the insert menu save the file as a word doc, then open it up here, double click the exe and it runs. a massive massive security hole, I just wish ms had a gpo that you could specify which filetypes can be embedded in word.

we do it the simains way, all sims users are in a simians group, simians group is added to power users on sims machines. after an upgrade we simply tell our staff to get in 5 min early and let the sims update run, works well as we use lesson monitor for registers. so all machines get done!

i wish, finally going to have a sims test server. wow dell servers are expensive! looking at arround £7k!

hahaha, its going to hurt the budget! Looks like new server time, been recommended by capita a newer server. There goes me thinking a PowerEdge 4600 with dual 2.8 xeon and 4gb ram was enough for sims!

nah, exchange has its own 64bit monster! all we have on our sims server is sims and backupexec 2003 32bit

server currently has 4gb, planning to up to 8gb next month depending on if we ever get any money!

We have an ongoing issue with sql process using 90-100% cpu on 4 proccessors during registration times, capitia keep looking into it etc. still, 100 classroom registration machines logging in and taking registers at the sametime - fun

we have full 2005 sql and it runs on all 4 procs and 2gb ram. runs like arse most of the day!

Its just a simple tickbox under the login box, tick it and once you enter user and pass in it brings up a box to change password

Well we ran it last nite, cover is broken and no longer opens. Please say someone knows how to disable the change password option on the new login box! The last things we need is our users changing passwords!

Nothing to do with that. I have the same issue with VLK clean install and on terminal servers. Loads the Microsoft IE download page for some unknown reason on second open of IE.

Was this the recent 3.5 update? We have had similar reason 0 issues, we thought it could be sql server sp3. We have capita do allsorts with it. We are currently having high CPU usage during registration periods. Have they advised you to roll back the .net 3.5 update?

Another vote for BGInfo here, works brilliantly, only problem I have now is students can change the wallpaper! annoying, but it resets on logout so it doesn't stick
