Personally I think to be skating at that speed in such a close proximity to shoppers was a bit over the top. It wouldnt be accepted if it was members of the younger generation doing the same. If he was using the area later in the evening, or very early morning when the shops are closed and there was no one about it might just be acceptable.

bossman Posted February 25, 2009 Posted February 25, 2009 I wonder what would he be charged with if he did knock someone over and (heaven forbid) actually kill a person in the same instance of someone running a person over with a car (total accident in both cases) would he be fined as much as he has been or would he just receive a suspended sentence. And then you get the person who carries a knife and actually goes out with the intent of stabbing someone and all that seems to happen to them is a small custodial sentence which in some cases is suspended also without a fine. British Law is an ASS it has no consistency. I personally feel that he should not skate around such a busy precinct but it is up to the individual to take responsibility for their own actions and gauge the level of common sense which is needed in life.

Something to note here is if he has appealed against the ruling, he could face losing again, and end up with a costs order far higher than the original.

Then again having had my sister seriously injured a few years ago by a careless skater in a town centre, I can't feel too much sympathy for him.

The amount of people who still do this irritates the hell out of me. I look at it this way. If someone ran over someone in your family you would be well furious as well as upset but if you found that they were texting a friend while doing it, then how would you feel? It's a little off-topic but it does come back round to bossman's comment on own actions and common sense. But also how yourself would act if it happened to you? Oh and why do some think that just because the phone isn't by their ears and on speakerphone it's OK??? /rant

WHERE AM I SUPPOSED TO SKATE?! answer is everywhere, just don't get caught

WHERE AM I SUPPOSED TO SKATE?! answer is everywhere, just don't get caught I wouldn't necessarily call that stupid. Its also illegal to ride a bike on the pavement, or drive a car. Pavements are for pedestrians. On the road cyclists are enough of a hazard, and at least they tend to stick to straight lines and be fairly visible.

I cycle on the pavements to.. occasionally launching myself off a cerb infront of buses I'm pretty much a local enemy
