PeterW Posted February 2, 2009 Posted February 2, 2009 Ok finally made it in, just 45 mins late due to a couple of accidents on the A27. I woke up to be greeted by this http://i125.photobucket.com/albums/p41/simboo_2006/02022009675.jpg Just had a phone call and email from Mark (Nedders) I don't think hes going to make it in at all by the looks of things, http://i125.photobucket.com/albums/p41/simboo_2006/2.jpg http://i125.photobucket.com/albums/p41/simboo_2006/1.jpg Right I'm off to park my car in the warehouse, hopfully the screen wash jets will start working again.
leco Posted February 2, 2009 Posted February 2, 2009 Not so much snow here, but all the schools are closed. Pity I couldn't have been notified BEFORE I walked in to work:-( The school has recently bought into a texting service for just such an event - pity it didn't work:-( Now we have lots of angry parents (and support staff) who made the effort to go to school. I could have stayed and done some work on the network, but some admin staff (including the head) arrived, so I've come home. I don't know if I want it to blizzard today so I get another day off tomorrow, will I get paid is the question?
contink Posted February 2, 2009 Posted February 2, 2009 Right I'm off to park my car in the warehouse, hopfully the screen wash jets will start working again. Screen wash 100% concentration is a must for the next couple of days... If you've got water in there, you've got no chance.. Typical of Nedders though, knew he sounded like a slacker... Just so long as he's got my schools order sorted!
Ex-MGSTech Posted February 2, 2009 Posted February 2, 2009 Some here too, about two inches and still snowing, makes the quad look very pretty though!
PeterW Posted February 2, 2009 Posted February 2, 2009 Typical of Nedders though, knew he sounded like a slacker... I know he kept bleeting on about how he can't see the roads and didn't want to write another car off so soon etc etc. Just so long as he's got my schools order sorted! He has it on the system they will be in production today/tomorrow
matt40k Posted February 2, 2009 Posted February 2, 2009 YaY snow!!! W00t! Mmm... no day off work :'[ Ahh... did see two cars crash, was like bowls, only with cars. Almost made the 30min walk worthwhile.
Andrew_C Posted February 2, 2009 Posted February 2, 2009 Update. Most schools in Winchester closed; not us though. The M3 in fine, with only a few muppets doing either 20 or 70+, main roads OK, but the side roads are "interesting". I'll not be staying until the end of school today (6:15) but will try to get home before dark. Much easier that way.
EvLPhenom Posted February 2, 2009 Posted February 2, 2009 We have snow here and it is still snowing but no day off yet though... there is still time for school to close though **sings** snow... snow... snow... snow....
gibbo_ap Posted February 2, 2009 Posted February 2, 2009 only me in today! well thats a small fib, one lad cant come due to the snow the other is on his latest skive...'we will rock you' queen musical practice etc in the hall.
Pyroman Posted February 2, 2009 Author Posted February 2, 2009 =D eeee my thread's been revived. Got snow here, kids being sent home, just waiting for the all clear so staff can go home.
vikpaw Posted February 2, 2009 Posted February 2, 2009 oh well, working from the sofa it is then.... I'd call that MoreThan Lucky - is it me or is this starting to sound like an advert.? If you're working from the sofa though, be careful, those laptops aren't actually designed to be put on top of your lap!
lionsl2005 Posted February 2, 2009 Posted February 2, 2009 wahooo, havy snow, tube lines are closed, no work......... Haa haa, enjoyed with little cusin makin snow man:D
Sirbendy Posted February 2, 2009 Posted February 2, 2009 bugger. Mini-blizzard outside the last 20 minutes. Not happy at all.... If this keeps up, I'm offski and sod the lot of 'em..
sparkeh Posted February 2, 2009 Posted February 2, 2009 bugger. Mini-blizzard outside the last 20 minutes. Not happy at all.... If this keeps up, I'm offski and sod the lot of 'em.. Good idea, getting worse here and I'm not looking forward to the state of the roads when I leave, they were bad enough on the way here
contink Posted February 2, 2009 Posted February 2, 2009 Must admit the fact that there's heavier snow on the way was the motivation for me to stick here... Got stuck the wrong side of the M62 a year or so back when all the lorries were being blown over on every main road in the gales we had so I'm not doing that again.
Sirbendy Posted February 2, 2009 Posted February 2, 2009 (edited) The missus had a mail from her boss- "I'll keep an eye on the snow - if it continues, abandon office". If that happens (and they're a 20 minute walk from home), I'm going to fetch her and do the same. I have a few jobs on the helpdesk outstanding, all can be done via VPN. If the head doesn't like it, I'll saty - IF he drives me home. If not, I will use my own judgement as to what I consider "safe". I'm just glad I did 2 skidpan courses and have an automatic with a snow mode. Edited February 2, 2009 by Sirbendy
Gatt Posted February 2, 2009 Posted February 2, 2009 M62 is notorious for being closed during high winds and snow - especially Jct 20 at Rochdale onwards towards Leeds. Keeping eye on the weather for getting home...
KWestos Posted February 2, 2009 Posted February 2, 2009 Typical! I am looking out of my window and it's BRIGHT SUNSHINE! There's no justice in the world. Also, writing the previous line made me laugh. Only in the UK could we complain about the sunshine (the little we get) and pray for poor weather!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! We are a strange lot!
vikpaw Posted February 2, 2009 Posted February 2, 2009 Only in the UK could we complain about the sunshine i'm not in the uk but i've been hoping for some
dannyjay Posted February 2, 2009 Posted February 2, 2009 School down the road is closed due to buses - we on the other hand are staying open!!
john Posted February 2, 2009 Posted February 2, 2009 i'm not in the uk but i've been hoping for some You want some Smow?! (sorry the emote has a typo in its name so it shows as smow). I think its a great idea that you want snow, so we will swap you, we will take your 20c temperature and you can have our snow for 1 month, hows that sound?
rad Posted February 2, 2009 Posted February 2, 2009 I got up and ready to go to work, got in the car, took someone else too. Got a text from a collegue to say schools shut, turned around and came home again. Person I was with was going by tube as there was "some" service on the Central line, but not here. West London (A40) still has a good 6 inches or so. Will find out later if school is open or closed tomorrow!
vikpaw Posted February 2, 2009 Posted February 2, 2009 @john DEAL send me the smow and i'll send you a box full of sunshine.
somabc Posted February 2, 2009 Posted February 2, 2009 (edited) I made it halfway along the DLR, before getting the dreaded 'we are experiencing severe delays due to a broken down train outside bank'. Not sure any trains were running on the circle/district line from bank anyway, and there were no jubilee line trains from canary wharf, no southeastern trains to london bridge and no buses at all. Edited February 2, 2009 by somabc
timbo343 Posted February 2, 2009 Posted February 2, 2009 Im sat at home at the mo, our school was called of this morning at 7:1, but i had to go in this morning as one of the servers had died.
