Pete10141748 Posted November 25, 2008 Posted November 25, 2008 Here we are 1:38 now 500 pupils to 13 PC's in a "suite", all our laptops are dead, and no money anywhere to get anything new at all, we even just had our LEA/Governors pay out for stuff to help the teachers/admin (£1000's for a new network) but nothing for the kids. I can't ever see this school getting anywhere close to the 1:8 or 1:10 mark, at a push I'd say that we could get to 1:16, with 15 PCs in the "suite" and 15 laptops, but it'd break our bank astonishingly just to get that.

Thanks SYSMAN_MK - I did read through the HT survey and thought from personal experience that they might be a little off... which seems to be the case with the small amount of feedback already.

witch Posted November 25, 2008 Posted November 25, 2008 1:4.5 here in a middle school up to year 8 But in the first school where I work it has gone DOWN from 1:4 to 1:12 !! Ofsted didn't mention it though

We're an academy with a small roll at the moment, every department has a trolley of 28 laptops, (English Maths and Science have 2) that's 13 trollys in total, and 4 ICT suites plus various others around the school. I'm pretty sure we're in the minority in having more than one PC per student. Mike.

However, most of the sixth formers have their own laptop (provided through the school), so if you discount them it's about 1:4.5 Worse than I would have guessed, if I'm honest. The labs are used almost every single period, so we certainly get good use of them. I only hear complaints about shortages very occasionally from staff who would like to book for non-IT lessons, and from students at lunchtimes, though there aren't enough staff volunteers to cover all the IT labs we do have, so extra labs wouldn't help.

steveg Posted November 26, 2008 Posted November 26, 2008 One primary school I work at is 1:2.5, another is 1:3 but this should improve when the next set of pupil laptops come in. Most of the schools we support (all primary) range from around 1:3 to 1:5. Steve
