nicholab Posted January 15 Posted January 15 Hi my wife is mad keen on a cyberx travel system and it got a light travel seat with it. I not total convinced that all items are needed with my son wheels and a car seat was the item used. What advice would people give about a travel system. I would get a travel system that is much cheaper like the type you can at Argos.
DalekSec Posted January 15 Posted January 15 First time? If so don't bothered about getting brand new flashy stuff, second hand facebook market-place etc all do they same job. The idea of a seat that goes straight from buggy to car seat seems like a good idea and is... for like 3 months. Not worth the cost on top, get a car seat that changes with the age is a much better way.
Sirbendy Posted January 19 Posted January 19 I went for a cheapie initial with both of mine..travel system. Then, when they outgrew that I went full belt and braces...Britax ERF seats, that last until they're old enough to not need additional seating. Huge, built like tanks, start in rear facing and eventually turn it round. First one I bought from a Volvo dealer, rebadged as the Volvo safety car seat. Figured, I've been in heavy impacts in a few Volvos, including one that tore off a wheel and removed a wing. It still started and dragged itself onto the recovery truck. Them Swedes know a few things. Never regretted it. They're 13/16 now..
TheHyperTechie Posted January 19 Posted January 19 (edited) All I would recommend, is getting an ISO fix swivel setup... emphasis on the swivel. Much easier to get them in/out of the car - and saves your back! edit - just realised you are discussing strollers/prams. However ^ my point still applies for a car seat! 🙂 Edited January 19 by HyperTech
LeMarchand Posted January 19 Posted January 19 I think you're missing the main factor: What does your wife want? I used to find some good deals and forward them to Bonus Daughter #1 and they would always be rejected as her little darlings could only have the best of the best. Happy wife? Happy life!
nicholab Posted January 19 Author Posted January 19 Political sensitive due to family situation. My first we used a car seat with a set of wheels. So she wants almost the best like some systems cost as much as my first car!

Just very flimsy. Returned it and spent a bit more and it was 100% worth it.
sideone Posted January 19 Posted January 19 We bought the older version of this: https://www.cosatto.com/products/wow-3-rotate-bundle-meadow By the time child #2 had come around, the wheels' rubber had worn off to the plastic - a quick phone call to the help centre and four new wheels were posted out free of charge. Buy a second "dock" for the car seat if you have two cars.
Patrick Posted January 19 Posted January 19 We got an "egg" pram used on Facebook market place and car seat that spins, once they start piling weight on you'll be thankful for the spinning seat!

You don't know their history, plus the polystyrene in them degrades over time. Second hand prams etc are fine though.

Didn’t think I’d need to say it, I thought it was just common knowledge not to buy used car seats. 1
nicholab Posted January 19 Author Posted January 19 It does see very wasteful but was aware of that. My wife want a cybex seat.
nicholab Posted February 9 Author Posted February 9 Help my wife now want to buy a £300 high chair? She does not what an ikea one.
Dos_Box Posted February 9 Posted February 9 I suspect baby doesn't care what it is sat in, wearing or being pushed around on. After my two (all grown up now) we realised quite early on that with growth spurts and the usual baby 'ejections' that clothes should be as cheap as possible. You'll be buying new ones in 2 months time. The 2 prams we had bought and transported them around in then put in the garage 'just in case', were beyond reselling. They truly were in a totally worn out and grubby state. It's easy to spend £££'s more than you need to for baby items that you will used and ready to get rid of in no time at all. 1

This ikea high chair - https://www.ikea.com/gb/en/p/antilop-highchair-with-tray-white-white-s79597515/ - is the one you want. It's used in SO many cafes, restaurants and pubs that it makes your whole life easier if the baby is already familiar with the chair from using it at home. It'll save you hours of grief! Plus they have little inflatable cushions to make it comfy for small babies too. Buy your baby hardware to make your life easier everywhere, not just at home!

The Ikea one is that one that's used in the overwhelming majority of restaurants/play cafes/etc. so it'll mean that little one is used to it wherever you go. We started off with a different one, but soon swapped to the Ikea one for numerous reasons. Familiarity being one, but ease of storage/transport being another, as well as cost. Baby won't care whether the chair cost £300 or £30. But they will care if they're out and about and not in the one they use at home.
nicholab Posted February 9 Author Posted February 9 This is an excellent point, and it is cheap enough to have one at my parents' house. I think one of the issues is not having a footrest.
DalekSec Posted February 9 Posted February 9 I've had 2 kids, both had the ikea high chair and they both still have all their limbs and brain cells
nicholab Posted February 9 Author Posted February 9 It's hard when she thinks it's going to be her only baby, aged 37.

My wife isn't/wasn't quite that old, but we also knew it was going to be our only baby for various other reasons. Spend the money on a pram/car seat, sure. But a high chair really isn't the place for a 'name brand' to hold any sway.

Sirbendy Posted February 10 Posted February 10 Seriously rated the ikea high chair. Survived both of my kids, and we gave it away after.

One of those that became a freestanding chair and table which was good when it was no longer needed as a high chair. Costs more than the Ikea, but a lot less than £300. A compromise maybe? Oh, and I was 40 when I became a mum.
