6Foot2 Posted November 18, 2025 Posted November 18, 2025 Quote A fix has been implemented and we believe the incident is now resolved. We are continuing to monitor for errors to ensure all services are back to normal. 1
ZeroHour Posted November 18, 2025 Posted November 18, 2025 It will be interesting to see the postmortem on this, at least Cloudflare are good a doing one. 2
Koldov Posted November 18, 2025 Posted November 18, 2025 Seriously though, all memes aside... It's happening more and more that one single company's services can take down large swathes of the internet. Would never happen, but .. maybe there should be some sort of internet anti-competition/monopolies & mergers commission that could say that whatever CDN/Web Services/DNS services you provide must be shown to always have over capacity (and can consistently prove instant fail-over, with multiple backbones), so that no one companies issues can cripple such a huge portion of the internet's services. I guess for these sort of services such as Cloudflare/AWS there are many advantages to being at such a large scale, but boy when it goes wrong everybody sure knows about it!
dmj Posted November 18, 2025 Posted November 18, 2025 (edited) Apparently, according to our account manager, it was a bug in their bot mitigation service following a config update Edited November 18, 2025 by dmj 1
Koldov Posted November 18, 2025 Posted November 18, 2025 Oh, well nothing's going to save it if they're going to inject buggy code...
mthomas08 Posted November 18, 2025 Posted November 18, 2025 Scary thought when you think about it. Cloudflare AWS (Amazon) Microsoft Google Govern what.. about 60% of the Cloud systems and 55% of internet traffic. I'm doing a little thing for the weekly bulletin and most of our external systems use those 4. With the school website being the only exception I can find hosting themselves. That joke about the internet being a tiny black box isn't far from the truth..
