Anyone else notice their papercut running slower and slower after each update?

Ours is a VM with 32gb and 4 cores and the cpu never drops below 55-60% for pc-app.exe, and the end result is the interface is so laggy as to be barely useable - if you click on the Logs page it simply won't load

I've gone through the usual papercut articles about performance but we seem to have everything as expected

Printing seems to work ok, although we're getting more and more complaints about the print client (account selection) dialogue not appearing

I'm reluctant to jump to v24 until a holiday so I'm wondering if anyone else had worked around this?

We ran most builds of v23 and had no issues with performance

Similar here. Printing works ok, but the interface runs like treacle.

Has been the same for a couple of major versions for us.

I've run papercut in several jobs, all similar size and specs to match, but this one seems to be getting progressively slower. I didn't set this server up but it looks all good to me so I can't see much apart from the series of updates to blame

That exactly it - works ok but from and admin point of view its a dog to navigate around

Downgrade to an earlier (working) version?

Posted

Latest version is same for me. Our server is well and truely overkill and still runs like a pig.

Downgrade not possible, we have a working version just slow, downgrading opens up a can or works with the various fixes which were fixed and patched to been vulnerable.

I recall a backup/restore funtion that was internal to PaperCut (not dependant upon your network backup/restore routines)

Could you use this functionality to downgrade your PaperCut implementation and restore the patches that were in place then?

*Sorry, I can't remember the details, and I can't remember if this might work or not.

Downgrading within the same database schema should be fine: https://www.papercut.com/kb/Main/DatabaseSchema

Otherwise could get messy. We have never really troubleshot the problem as it is only the admin interface - while annoying it isn't a deal breaker.

Hey now PaperCutter here. Can I ask that anyone experiencing a slowdown log a ticket with my tech team so they can investigate? That should not be happening. Open a ticket at support.papercut.com and, if you don't mind, mention this thread.

Its a bit random here as well - I click on the Logs page and it took 15 seconds to appear. Clicked on Options (10 seconds) and then back to logs and it was a lot quicker!

As long as its not just me I'll put it on the 'annoyance list' and move on....

Its one of those where extra ram is no good, ours was 4 core/16gb and I upped it to 32gb and it made it worse if anything,so its back down to 16gb which is about 60% used

Dare I drop it to 1/4 of the ram available instead of half :D

Version: 23.0.7 (Build 68939) here

Don't think we have any issues.

Clicked the LOGS menu item and page refreshed in 3 seconds.

Specs of VM below.

Hope that helps.

Good luck in resolving your issues.

New fresh install of v23 runs fine here.

Came inline with uplifting print server. Never been much of a fan implace upgrading servers and always spun up a new vm.
