Computer suite management

Hi all,

I'm looking for some management software for our computer suite. I want to be able to lock all 33 computer screens to stop children messing about when they should be listening to the teacher. Being able to project the teachers screen would ne nice as well.

 

I don't need anything too fancy, locking the screen for all PC's or individual computers could be great and viewing what they are up to would be a bonus.

Our teaching staff use Netsupport, but I'm not a fan, seems flakey and is always crashing.

Take a look at AB Tutor, usually works out cheaper than the competition and will do everything you need.

 

Otherwise Impero, Classroom Cloud and Senso are other big players in this market.

Glad to have got rid of AB Tutor, Net support was very cheap and I guess did the job.

The two I have personally used are AB Tutor & Senso.

 

Senso is what we currently use, it's great for remote support being cloud based. However, does have a few issues & requires some firewall config to get working correctly. (even then some modules dont function 100%, such as the broadcast, theres a thread on here somewhere mentioning it)

 

AB Tutor is local/cloud - Last time I used it was 2021 on an older version (version 7 if i remember correctly) - never had a single issue with it, cant comment on recent versions/cloud version

Netsupport here. It's always been pretty good and when we have had problems their tech support is always great.

In two refits I've persuaded the sparkies to put in a seperate ring for the monitors with IEC leads hardwired to cable outlets. This ring has a simple switch at the teachers' desk. Nothing to go wrong, no updates, and most teachers can work a switch without an inset day.

 

Sure, software can do so much more, but...

I've used Senso, NetSupport (on prem solution) and Classroom Cloud (Netsupports cloud solution) Veyon, Impero and ABTutor.

 

Given you're only talking about a single IT suite, ABtutor is probably the best fit. Veyon if you have no budget but don't expect quality with that, i also had kids getting around the screen lock somehow, and a strange conflict with another piece of software. Classroom Cloud would be my personal recommendation for best of the bunch when money isn't an issue.

That's pretty ingenious. Don't the monitors come back to standby after being turned off at the wall? Doesn't that cause faffing while the kids work out how to turn them back on?

NetSupport School, DNA and Manager here but looking for a cloud based solution going forward, did speak about Classroom Cloud to NetSupport but turned out to be more than twice as expensive so we'll be looking elsewhere.

Televisions definitely do but I've yet to encountered a monitor which hasn't come back on after the power has been cut.

 

I'd have loved to have done that though, but all the schools I've worked at have always gone for the lowest cost option which is a double-socket per computer and nothing else fancy.

Shouldn't cost anything extra (well, maybe a little) as most suites will need more than one ring to reduce leakage current on RCDs to acceptable levels.

Currently using Impero but prefered ab tutor..... but not a fan of the new "cloud" version at the mo.

Veyon is open source and has some paid add ons. The free version works well for us.

We ditched RM this summer - Moved over to Impero for us. I'm quite impressed.

Get teachers on board with what ever software you use.

 

1. It will help spread knowledge between them and reduce issues

2. When a student cannot access something they need to access for the lesson because of a block put on by another teacher, the teacher can most likely sort it out themselves rather than coming to IT Support.

Our Teachers like Impero, it's cheap and cheerful and easy to use and it does what you've asked for.
