If I use my personal mobile to sign in using 4G it accepts my username and password, I give it the code from the authenticator app and then....

Why does it then think I want to change my password???

Hi all,

Hope you are well. Did anyone get anywhere with the Pearson site? I have 3 schools, 1 gets a server error when they try to login, but it works at home. Another can login but they cannot change their password when onsite, they have to do it from home.

I've got the following exceptions for Pearson in our web filter

  • ^([A-Za-z0-9.-]*\.)?pearson\.com/
  • springboot-dev.priv.pearsondev.tech/
  • springboot-prod.priv.pearsonprd.tech/

I can't recall what the springboot ones are, but since adding these we have had a lot less problems.

Did you check the odd port one too? There was one specifically that needed a different port opening (Unless you're wildcarding it fully)

The password changes are all linked to how they're checking the strength of passwords which fail if it's not unblocked

Wildcarding it fully atm, was having too many issues and we needed access.

Anyone come to a conclusion on this when using smoothwall?

We are transparent, no proxy.

Not looking to open up port 8443 to all destination IPs and Pearson don't provide a subnet...

We have a firewall rule and address object setup that works for a while until Pearson change AWS compute and the IP addresses change.

As Smoothwall doesn't support DNS for firewall rules I can't just add in "springboot-prod.priv.pearsonprd.tech" and "springboot-prod.identity-prd.pearson.com"

Thanks!

Is anyone having issues with Pearson trying to access materials for exams? I have an error saying 'The server's certificate is not signed by a trusted CA' when trying to access edexcellonline.com.

I have just tried accessing the site from another school and it works fine so I feel like I need to do something my side but have no idea what.

There was a post under the smoothwall forum for this, their certificate chain is incomplete so pages under the edexcel.com domain that are forwarded from pearson.com are not trusted. It's a Pearson issue, unsurprisingly. You can get around it by whitelisting, but that defeats the point of smoothwall's checks in the first place. Pearson need to get off their backside and do things properly for once.

I did think this was a Pearson issue as I have problems with them before over websites. Will have to speak to their useless customer service tomorrow.

Many thanks for confirming this.

Yes, same issue here today too (using Sophos XGS) noted that their certificate had renewed from today.

As @synaesthesia mentioned, can whitelist but we shouldn't have or need to!

Yes have finally got through and manage to speak a very help person at Pearson. He did try to send me information on how to whitelist which I refused to do. So has escalated it to the technical team. Case number is 52465337 if anyone else wants to quote.

So today, users are unable to see who has 'Thanked a teacher' due to the website being blocked as the classic 'The server certificate did not match the domain name' look who The teaching awards and it is Pearson.

Trying to get hold of anyone taking responsibility for it though is proving a challenge.
