just a quickie to see how much space you guys allow for your staff and student accounts until the point when you have to say something. music and unnecessary pics are slowly taking up space on the server now??

students 600mb

staff 6gb

LA wonder why we don't want to use their VLE - it offers 50mb per user!

omg 6gb per staff account thats huge. how long does your back up last :)

Staff = Unlimited

Students = Unlimited

For those that abuse the privelages their MP3 collection gets wiped and their quota is set accordingly to what year group they are in.

Year 7 = 100MB

Year 8 = 200MB

Year 9 = 300MB

Year 10 = 500MB

Year 11 = 750MB

Sixth Form = 1GB (Accounts are recreated when they join and they don't continue to use their old Year 11 account).

No limits at the moment, but fast running out of storage space on my ageing servers, so I think some form of limiting may be looked at this summer, when I've actually had a chance to review how the server space is allocated at the moment. Why RM CC3 has to hide the shares in silly places, and duplicate everything to every server I don't know!

Staff: unlimited

Students: unlimited

We're lucky here that managment realise that storage is not free and will get more drives and backup space when required to allow people to have unlimited space. We have some staff that deal with video with 60GB of 'processed' data.

KS3 Students - 150MB

KS4 Students - 300MB

Staff were unlimited but a quota of 5GB per user will be in place come September following one user who has over 40GB of data! (24GB on Home Directory and 16GB thats right I said 16GB on her profile!)

I have found this very interesting....

We set student accounts to 10MB !!! And then we adjust art related subjects to 100MB.....

How much space do you guys have and how many students??

We have 1100 students, of which 800 require this space...

Teachers are not limited as such... We did place a 100MB limit, but only to stop staff using all the network space up!! We found a while ago, a teacher filled the network drive copying data over, and to make it worse, when we deleted data to make more space, the software they were using filled it back up again! So thats why we have limited it....no other reason...

Students: 50MB on one server and 300MB on the DT server.

Staff: 300MB and DT staff have 800MB upwards on DT server.

However these figures are slim and DO NOT permit any kind of video, audio or any such content to be stored.

Manglement wanted it all nice and clear.

was unlimited for all accounts but now impose:

1gb normal staff user

2gb ICT staff user

500 mb pupil

Don't know how students can get by with 10mb as rrichmond mentioned!

Staff = 3 gig , but very few of them actually use more than 500Mb.

Students = 250Mb

Media Students = 2Gig (They have their own server)

Students 500mb and then 700mb in year 11

And thats not really sufficient especially if they do art as PS files can easily be 50mb each.

With all the media use thats creeping into the curriculum I'm of the opinion that 2GB per student is more like the amount needed.

Staff currently unlimited but some are abusing the system and it may be necessary to set some limits

Our current default limits are as follows:

Years 7 - 9 : 150Mb

Years 10 & 11 : 300Mb

Year 12 & 13 : 500Mb

Teaching Staff : 1Gb

Non-Teaching Staff : 100Mb (as the majority rarely touch a computer and our admin staff have their own admin server/domain)

Of course there are a few exceptions such for those staff and students that have a need to handle large amounts of media such as art, technology (gfx design) and a-level music but those are evaluated as required.

Oh and of course the system admins have no limits :D

We used to limit our lower years to 50Mb but we started using Alite Learn2Learn which requires that students save an 35Mb excel spreadsheet to their areas so we had to increase it pretty sharpish.
