We've just thought about a vid cam on a tripod. Just over £100 for vid cam and then add a cheap tripod. Choose one with vid out and it should be OK. We'll be trying this with the art dept soon.

Don't give up in diesel I've just bought 07 plate Mondeo ST TDCi for the kind of money your talking about. 155Bhp and enough torgue to pull up trees. In fact mid range is fantastic. Well quipped and economy is good I'm currently getting 40 round town. Only had it a week so can't comment on long journeys. Ain't too many of them around either. Yep we have a screen in reception, foyer areas of the other buildings and in the student dining room. From what you describe they would be better with a stand alone PC (though networked would be better) and data projector. At least they would have a decent size image and there are plenty of different ways of creating the content. Would expect this to be much cheaper than Life Channel

Another vote for Magician (Feist) one of my fav books.

We have Life Channel in our school, I wasn't involved in the procurement. Life channel produce subtitled short films on various topics, sexual health, healthy eating bullying, etc. These are sent to the PC's they install overnight and are then shown on a loop during the day. The school can add its own content to be shown in between each of the films in the loop. Or if necessary suspend the content loop and show their own 'important' content. We recently did this after a switch failiure, rather than try and get to everyone round the school we just had an 'everythings working' message shown on the screens around the school. Can't comment on pricing, as I said I wasn't involved in the procurement.

Yep the Beeb site can be a bit flakey. We recently trialed IE8 and when the machine accessed the Beeb site the web service on our proxy died wtih the result internet was off for all the school! Back to the Ranger issue it does sound like a title check though why its happening for staff is strange unless you've chosen to track staff usage as well. As others have said try removing the Ranger client and see if the issue still exists and the Ranger log should give further clues. We're using IE7 and to best of my knowledege (read no one has complained) BBC site works OK. Though sometimes we have issues with video on the site. Recently at home the BBC site has been really sloooooooow.

Davids comment is quite a good one in both skiing and boarding some of the most comman injuries from falls are injuries to the wrist. Its natural reaction to put your arm out to cushion the fall. Unfortunately this can lead to damage of the wrist. Something like judo/ju-jitsu will teach you how to fall safetly as well as learning a martial art. I use to do ju-jitsu and in all the years of skiing my instinct is to breakfall and I've never had an arm/shoulder/wrist injury

Was busy doing some searching when this happened. Bit puzzled at first but when my 2 other machines did the same it was likey a Google issue. Your camera software should include a RAW handling software. Its when you come to doing something with the image that there is, as others have said, some need to make sure that you have the right sotware as not all formats are the same. Don't know if its still available but Rawshooter was good free program. Silkypix was also an alternative though IIRC this is shareware. Of cousre if you have fairly recent version of Photoshop there should be an add-in.

And one other thing you might need USB floppy drive, isn't one in the laptop I believe, as XP install will look for the driver being on a floppy.

OK you'll need to download the sata driver from the HP site and then press F6 (IIRC) during XP install to add additional drivers

USB can be a pain like this we've one staff laptop where certain makes of stick just aren't detected. I've a laptop at home where a usb mouse will only be detected on one of the 5 ports, other devices work on every port. Tried a different mouse and same issue.

We have a couple of Canon photocopies on our network but it was aright pain getting them to work. It was some time ago but I recall that drivers were needed and bizzarly they were only available from the Conadian Canon site!!! Not 30 minutes ago I was informed that bioth of these have stopped accepting print requests so looks like some more tinkering.

This type of thing is usually refered to as a video wall. If you Google it you'll find companies who do this, don't want to think of the cost. Might be some issues with setting up something like this yourself, principaly getting the balance of all the monitors same/similar.

I've had a card left by CityLink saying sorry you weren't in. Actually we were, heard the letter box and by the time we'd picked up the card and gone outside the van was disappearing down the street. Lazy B hadn't knocked at all. Like ParcelFarce earlier this week I think they couldn't be bothered to try and used the weather as an excuse.

Have never had a problem with DHL or UPS. CityLink and ParcelForce are a complete waste of space.
