Parcelforce must be one of the worst companies in the UK. Thankfully lots of companies don't use them any more. In the past we've had a parcel sent that required a signature. When it didn't arrive we rang the supplier who checked and then told us someone had signed for it. When the record was pulled it was some ramdom squiggle and the parcel was never found. We also had a laptop that mysteriously disappeared at the distribution depot, again never found. And now the latest, was expecting a parcel today which didn't arrive. Got in touch with supplier who confirmed it had been sent yesterday on 24hr delivery with Parcelforce. I could have sworn at that stage. Did a check on their website to track the parcel and it said not delivered due to adverse weather conditions! What a pile of poo. Sure we've had some snow but nothing to cause any problems and DHL still managed to deliver a parcel today.

We've finally got our site up and running though there is still some work to be done. Can't get the authority to sort out the firewall so that we can update the site from the school. One of the technicians has to do this from home. Breeze Hill School - Home Incedentally I went to Moorclose. Was some considerable time ago though.

When I've seen these type of issues in the past I found its always best to start with all the security removed and then you'll be able to establish if the device will connect at all. If this doesn't work then its obviously a hardware issue. Assuming it connects OK its then a matter of working up security levels and see if all is still OK. Strangely I've had laptops that wouldn't connect with security enabled. But after connecting without will connect when security is re-enabled.

True IE8 is still beta. Trialing on a couple of desktops at school and bizzarly on once machine when we visit BBC.CO.UK the web service on the proxy crashes. Took us a while to realise what was causing the this. Can't see anything to explain this so we'll configure another machine and see if we get the same problem. By the way I tried rolling IE8 back to IE7 on my desktop and no way would it work.

I had same problem with my home desktop. Installed IE8 and seems to have sorted this issue.

Like others we use Intake 08, Intake 07, Intake 06 etc. For user ID's we use their admission number as this is unique to each student. We drop the leading 0 and replace with a B as the school name starts with a B. Strangely pupils don't have any problem remembering this number, pity they can't remember their passwords as well.

Whatever features you're looking for just note that a lot of the 'cheaper' frames are quite low resolution. If you look at the spec of this one from Tesco site even though its 7" the res is very low 480 x 234 Technika JP07 7" Digital Photo Frame - Tesco.Direct Same with this from PCW Matsui Digital Photo Frame - Buy the Matsui White Digital Photo Frame at PC World. Where as this Sony has higher res 800 x 400 Sony Digital Photo Frame - Buy the Sony DPF-D70 Digital Photo Frame at PC World.

Did experience this once in the past. After restarting router never happened again

Just recieved a flyer about this 'free service' Never heard of it before, does anyone know anything about this?

We use them. Very good knowledgable/reliable staff. Do you have anything in particular you're thinking about for them to do?

Yep really big thing in the States. I'm sure we all saw [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IK90Ys2LhSo]YouTube - Wizards of Winter[/ame] This was a major exercise, all computer controlled. Did read the technical stuff somewhere once. And the music was transmitted over FM so people could sit in their cars, tune the radio to correct frequency and hear the music, so that the neighbours didn't have to listen to the stuff all the time. There are some decorated houses locally, I'll take some pics when I'm able.

Also surprised to see USB not mentioned. We have whiteboards that suddenly stop responding, plug the cable into another USB port and it works. Plug back into the original port and its OK again. My sons laptop has about 5 USB ports and the USB mouse only works in one of them! And a different make of USB mouse doesn't work at all! We've seen USB pen drives that work OK on one machine and not on another. And USB cables that the general public are getting ripped of with. A standard 1.8 metre is £15 from PC World!!! I keep telling staff to visit Tesco as the same cable is less than £2. I've sourced for school at about 80p. so the £15 PCW charge seems a bit excessive, to say the least.

I get this Pupil: I've lost my work Me: You mean you've deleted it Pupil: No I didn't delete it I than expalin only two people can delete their work themsleves or me and I still get, 'Well I didn't delete it' So its round the circle again and it usually transpires they've left the machine logged on and walked away for a while and one of their classmates has helped by deleteing all their work.

OK to start its well worth checking John Lewis as they will price match and a 5 year guarantee is included. Don't look at prices on thier site as it doesn't reflect prices in store. I bought a Panasonic and the store was matching a local retailer which meant the price was £50 lower than anywhere else. For some discussion/advice see here: LCD Televisions - AVForums.com Hopefully you'll be able to make a decission then. From personal experience I know how difficult this can be and I wish you luck. Another site worth a look http://www.hdtvtest.co.uk/

Very much depends what local arrangements are. Our LA provide insurance for laptops (£200 excess). There are some conditions like; reasonable care to secure, so stolen from home when the doors are unlocked wouldn't count. Left in an unattended car also doesn't count. In either case staff know that they are then responsible and replacemnet would be at their cost.

Just one thing the Tom Tom speed cams have improved but still don't match the Pocket GPS data. You can have spoken warnings as well. IIRC the cost is less as well. I'm using a trusty TT 500 that has worked great. Currently doing family history research and have used the TT to take me to locations that have been mentioned in census records etc. Navigated faultlessly to small villages all over Hertfordshire. No experience of other PND but TT is easy to use and as reliable as any other.

We have 50+ IP cameras and the network hit isn't too bad. One thing to bear in mind is that with motion detection the cameras can monitor 24/7 but recording only takes place when movement is detected. So traffic is reduced and the amount of data recorded is reduced so storage can be longer or you can use smaller storage devices. All our cameras are Vivitek and these come with software that monitors/records upto 16 cameras.

Can't comment on the event you show. However, we did have really poor SIMS performance that was due to an upgrade of Sophos software. Only short term measure that worked was to increase the size of the virtual memory allocation. After that SIMS performance was much better.

Net2 and Paxton is what we use as well. Easy to manage and configure

Personally I'd take one of these machines to another suite and see how it runs. If all is OK then it should be something related to the switches. Loopback might be an issue. Though duff switch is probably more likely. Might be interesting if you can see what processes are running when the machines slow down.
