Hi, having been out this game for a while, i now have regular time to maintain our schools small network. So i need a list of regular jobs to do or to check to give to my manager so i can keep my allotted time going. eg updates checking internet history monitoring print jobs so if you can add to this list it would be much appreciated.

what paper did you see it in witch?? -
What when the pupil needs to log on and do some work?? today i changed a students password and he then realised that taking out the network cable he can log in without his usual profile settings then put the cable back in, click on internet which then it promts for a user name and password so another student then put his name in and then bingo back online again lol.

How do you manage computer / internet bans for students?? All i do at the moment is change their password to tutors surname so teachers can log that particular pupil in when its needed and the student cannot log on when they wish.

young ish lol im 32 and have done a basic IT essentials course 1 and 2. have tried for more funding but been refused. the managing staff here dont really know what it entails to run a network, yes i have mentioned all the updates and various other jobs that are not getting done now but their answer is more or less a shrug of the shoulders. As for my line manager (ict co-ordinator) yes have whinged big time to her and yes she knows i need more time as mainstream is her backround but again its shrugged upon. we have had a new timetable out today and guess what instead of 5 tech times i now have 4 woohoo.

i have been doing this job for about 2 years now in a special need school for only about 55 boys so a smallish network about 80 workstations. during the first year i was more or less left alone to do my job so knowing not alot about this field i feel i learned pretty quickly and most importantly really enjoyed it. For the last 6-9 mths things have changed alot here and i am more and more put in class to support lessons. I now get 5 tech sessions a week on a 35 session timetable to do my job which is nothing and its really p***ing me off as im not doing what i enjoy or what i need to learn lots more about. So what do i do, there seems never to be any similar jobs down this way so apply for and im desparate to get out of this place so i kinda feel to take anything up until another techy job comes up??

just got this info if its genuine?? It's not illegal to use someone else's wireless network to access the internet. The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) sets the rules for use of wireless spectrum in the U.S. The radio frequencies used for 802.11a/b/g systems are not regulated - licensed to specific users. As long as the equipment used to operate on these frquencies meets FCC guidelines, anyone is free to access any system. It is up to the operator of the system to restrict users.
-
only asking as one of our residential pupils has said he has been using neighbours network and i was asked. I thought it would only be illegal if it did have a password on it and then you hacked into it??
-
is it illegal to use someone elses wireless connection if they have not put a password on it??
-
ok fair enough, i always thought that Malwarebytes was good enough to do the job without anymore?? would you do a registry clean up or not, i know a few of us tend not to go there but in my experience has never messed up and seems to do the trick??
-
isnt ccleaner just like a disk clean up??, why use 3 lots of scan software?? with memory upgrade is 39.99 included in that??
-
so if someone said could you service my pc for me what would you do?? just a virus/spyware scan, stop certain start up programs, registry clean??
-
does anyone do much private work outside their jobs for extra cash ie servicing peoples pc's and how much do you charge??

when do a search for any of blocked sites through google they are filtered, but the cached link goes to the homepage fine, any click after that is blocked so they cannot access it anyway which is good, but i was just wondering why the cached link works fine really??

at the moment its around 40gb and our tapes are only 32gb, but with more staff and pupils becoming better computer litarate its only going to increase.
-
hi guys, Our back up tape drive is not big enough to back everything up, so i have been given a option to either have a bigger tape drive and tapes installed at a price of around £1000 or go for a external hardrive of around 500gb which is about £80. Obviously the price is a massive difference but what do you think is the best option to go for??
