Koldov Posted September 20, 2023 Posted September 20, 2023 Three mornings this week we have been unable to get through the Microsoft SSO, it's utterly ridicuolous. Our main concern is that we can't access emergency contact details if we need to call a parent or next of kin in an emergency. We're going to have to resort to pulling a CSV containing that information and storing it in a secure folder on our server, for such an emergency. Edit: We're mainly after the details in the Emergency Contact field that gets handed over to paramedics. Yep we have had to do the same. Or boot up our SIMS server for reference. However we can only do that this year as next year SIMS wont have our year 7s. Very worrying from Bromcom. With a general 'move everything to the cloud' feeling percolating through education and it slowly encroaching into my school, I have dropped the 'what if the internet breaks?' question into every discussion... More pertinent than ever now as the latest is whether to move to Bromcom or Arbor so this thread is interesting and it seems not only to be a question of 'what if the internet breaks?', but 'what if the MIS platform breaks?'... The answer I get is that there should always be a hard copy of these things (locked away but still available anyway as detailed in the DR plan), is that right?
Linfit Posted September 20, 2023 Posted September 20, 2023 The answer I guess is that there should always be a hard copy of these things (locked away but still available anyway as detailed in the DR plan), is that right? Up to a point I think. We keep a hardcopy of essential contact data and things like class registers for emergencies. More important is probably to have an alternative communication option if your comms to parents are embedded in the MIS. We have a subscription to gov.notify which we can use as an alternative for sending bulk e-mails and texts. An outage would have to last several days before it started to have a real impact I think, and back filling things like attendance data would be a pain but do-able. You also have to think about the MIS being unavailable globally from anywhere and issues caused by local internet connectivity problems. You can plan for the latter in a DR plan fairly easily, especially if you are a school in a trust with some centralisation, but nothing you can really do about the former.
supportman Posted September 21, 2023 Posted September 21, 2023 No speed issues here either, its been fine. Only issue we've had is some failing payments on the Bromcom parent portal.
Aprice Posted October 11, 2023 Posted October 11, 2023 (edited) Is slowness to be expected with Bromcom? Just set a report off to give me the basic student details for a single year group: first name, last name, DOB, email & gender. Currently at 1400 seconds, is this sort of performance typical? Tried designing the report earlier in Safari, but the page just went blank every time a report element is dropped. Edited October 11, 2023 by Aprice
michaeljbrewis97 Posted October 11, 2023 Author Posted October 11, 2023 Bromcom doesn’t recommend Safari but suggests using Google Chrome. Do you get the same performance issues using that? supportman Posted October 12, 2023 Posted October 12, 2023 Really glad they upgraded the MCAS user login page recently. Page load times have gone from 7 seconds to 2 seconds Its the page I use most so very happy about the improvement.
sakhgar Posted November 2, 2023 Posted November 2, 2023 We have just moved onto Bromcom and have experienced similar in terms of performance. Make sure you vote on the Bromcom Ideas page to have the performance improved/looked at. It currently has the most votes!
timbo343 Posted November 9, 2023 Posted November 9, 2023 Is there an issue with Bromcom today / this afternoon? We don't usually have a problem but today... my word, it's slow and unresponsive, even tethering via my mobile data to rule out our network. Report building / creation is like pulling teeth! 1
Olliedawg Posted November 9, 2023 Posted November 9, 2023 Reporting as OK apart from the student portal : Bromcom Cloud Status Page
Oaktech Posted November 9, 2023 Posted November 9, 2023 Is there an issue with Bromcom today / this afternoon? We don't usually have a problem but today... my word, it's slow and unresponsive, even tethering via my mobile data to rule out our network. Report building / creation is like pulling teeth! We've had moments starting about 12:30 where it's repeatedly loaded a page or taken a very long time to move between screens. Groups has been the worst for us. Several minutes to load the the main page and then about 2 minutes to move between group types.
CHiLL Posted November 9, 2023 Posted November 9, 2023 We haven't been made aware of any issues - but could that be because people are aware that it's often slow? Possibly. On another note, Bromcom recently setup status alerts for their service, which are sent from [email protected]. These emails are quite frequent, specifically regarding the website monitor going offline and then being resolved. Funny thing is, you look at their own status page and it's 100% uptime! Hmm.
themightymrp Posted November 9, 2023 Posted November 9, 2023 I've raised a ticket about this too, both yesterday and today the speed has been shockingly slow. I gave up creating a simple report.
timbo343 Posted November 9, 2023 Posted November 9, 2023 I spoke to Bromcom and they weren't aware of any issues however they did ask me to click on the Profile picture at top right > click about > asked for the host name which was WebL04, i'm now on Host WebL14 and things still seem slow, maybe a little better. I'm testing the Report Style in AdHoc reports as this afternoon it took ages to catch up.
RootsSchImp Posted November 10, 2023 Posted November 10, 2023 I gave up using ad hoc reports years ago - they've always been garbage. Excel Addin / the odata feed are the best ways of getting data out of Bromcom IMO
supportman Posted November 13, 2023 Posted November 13, 2023 Lots of issues reported today with slowness on the ideas forum. Invest in overall performance | Bromcom Ideas Portal (bromcomcloud.com) 2

Olliedawg Posted January 9, 2024 Posted January 9, 2024 (edited) Anyone having issues this morning? Running very slow Edited January 9, 2024 by Olliedawg
nwkeene Posted January 9, 2024 Posted January 9, 2024 Yes, slow for us here in Oxfordshire... Nothing on their status pages... our Data Manager has spotted some 'slowness' reports on the various DM forums...
CHiLL Posted January 9, 2024 Posted January 9, 2024 It's slow/not loading for us too and we're unable to do registers. Who'd have thought, first proper day back and Bromcom issues/slowness. It's almost like it's predictable... 1
nwkeene Posted January 9, 2024 Posted January 9, 2024 . Nothing on their status pages... Its now appeared on their status pages here: https://status.bromcomcloud.com and i've just received one of their OneUptime alerts about the issue: Performance degradation Resources Affected: Bromcom MIS Cloud UK Severity: Minor Incident State: Acknowledged Description: We are aware of a general degradation currently affecting users of the MIS and Finance. This is currently being investigated with urgency. 1
Brax Posted January 9, 2024 Posted January 9, 2024 Yep got flooded with tickets this morning but at least they've acknowledge it on the status page.
