I'm not getting into the debate of whether an Americano with milk is really a flat white, a latte or its own thing!!

 

I try to order a "black coffee" unless the "barista" really doesn't get the concept. Millennials and their fancy names for simple things.

 

Anyway, back to tea. The Professor states it must be "the shade of an acorn" and, obviously, Herbal? No thanks!

This black coffee drinker gave up the white after seeing the inside of the coffee machine in my first job. It was green & slimy.

b) I'm not against people enjoying whatever they desire, you do you! My beef is when said people make out that this is the only way that coffee should be drank, and this in turn makes them superior than someone who enjoys a latte or a flat white or other...

That is technically correct

 

However I find that it is always best to be clear that I want it black

 

Even so I still normally either get asked if I want milk with it or find there is a small milk jug on my tray

 

On occaision I have had to stop someone actually putting milk in in spite of me specifying black

 

and - yes - UI have sent it back a few times because there is milk in it when it arrives

 

so - tautology - yes - necessary - also yes

Little story - 'cos I know you like them

 

anyway - when I was a kid - i.e. up to middle teens - I only drank orange squash and water - nothing else

 

my Mum was waiting for many years expecting me to start drinking "grown up drinks" but it never happened

so she started persuading me to try things like tea and coffee different ways

 

I would rink tea but only with about 5 sugars but wasn;t really bothered

 

I couldn;t stand coffee

 

Then one year, when I was about 16, we went on holiday to a very posh hotel in Scotland

the sort where there is filter coffee made available after dinner in the lounge area - with cream as well

 

so my Mum launched a project to try me with different amounts of milk and cream and sugar until she found a way of getting me to drink coffee

 

after a few days we were up to about half cream and half coffee with 3 sugars!!!!

 

and I still didn;t like it

 

Then I noticed that her coffee hd no milk at all - so I tried it like that and discovered that it was the milk/cream in the coffee that was the problem

I think there is some sort of reaction between them rather than a direct mixing

 

anyway - since then I have drunk coffee - but always black

 

as a side note

At the time I took 2 sugars

then - when I was at University, I was rather behind with writing up some practicals (Chemistry degree) that had to be in by Monday and this was Saturday morning and I discovered that I had run out of sugar

The shop on campus was closed on Saturdays and I didn;t have time to get to the nearest town to get more

 

by the Monday I no longer took sugar in coffee

My story finishes - after dropping the green & slimy white, I realized that all I could taste was sweet. The sugar went at that point - black & without for 40 years now.

When people as me how much milk I like I normally say "just a drop of milk"

because literally a drop is better than too much milk!!

When I have coffee I get asked how I like it. I used to say “just a little bit of milk so it looks like hot chocolate”.

 

I got my drink and it was hot chocolate. The above totally confused them!

I think that adding milk in this way most closely resembles what you drink at home if you don't have fancy equipment and have milk in your brew: You make a black coffee and stir in milk. Other "coffee shop" milky coffees involve different methods of adding the milk.

Well, I'm about to make my 4th of the day and it's only 09:30 so I'm well on schedule (no it's not decaf). I guess I should be bouncing off the walls, but I think I must have built up a tolerance, I even have a slightly weaker version before I go to bed... Mind you I just like the taste, I'm the weird one that loves coffee and walnut cake and all the coffee flavoured chocolates... I was the only one disappointed when that little round Revel turned out NOT to be the coffee one!

 

Haven't there been a few studies linking people who prefer black coffee and such to certain psychological traits...?** Just sayin'....

Secret Starbucks hack if you just want a black coffee and are in a hurry: order a filter! They turn from the till pour you a coffee and hand it to you immediately.

 

Also they don't offer you milk since the milk for this is at the self-serve sugar station.

 

Tea from Starbucks (or any coffee shop), however is emergency-only territory.

I'm a 3 for my tea, usually in a huge sports direct mug - or one I've got that's larger (I might post a picture later...)

For coffee, I'll drink it any way it comes but typically it's either black and none or white and none. I used to have 10+ a day but have had to cut down to 1-2 caffeinated and the rest decaff after some doctor's advice
