OldTimeIT Posted November 8, 2022 Posted November 8, 2022 Acorn valve. Used in VHF and UHF radio equipment.
Ketlane Posted November 8, 2022 Posted November 8, 2022 This is from a much earlier vintage - and actually a genuine question too. I believe 1940s and airborne electronics. There might just be someone on Edugeek who can recognise this...... History (and why I want to find out) - my mother worked for Ferranti as a physicist in quality control in about 1942-45. This came home with her, almost certainly against the Official Secrets Act. She said the components she worked on were used in bombers - so there has to be someone out there who is the expert on Ferranti valves! Was this used in Gee, or H2S, or what?
Ditto Posted November 8, 2022 Posted November 8, 2022 I'll apologise for the image quality now, it's really hard to find a decent hi-res image of this groundbreaking device. I don't think this is right, but because of the black and white - Oric? If no, is that a trackpad of some sort?
3s-gtech Posted November 8, 2022 Posted November 8, 2022 Good shout that! That image is about the right size and resolution for the screen from one too!
Ditto Posted November 8, 2022 Posted November 8, 2022 Good shout that! That image is about the right size and resolution for the screen from one too! Agreed - not an Oric.
Ironside Posted November 14, 2022 Posted November 14, 2022 Seems we've gotten stuck. Let's restart from this:
Norphy Posted November 14, 2022 Posted November 14, 2022 Is that one of those Classmate swivel tablets? 1
southhamster Posted November 14, 2022 Posted November 14, 2022 I reckon you might be right Norphy - the label looks familiar...
Dos_Box Posted November 14, 2022 Posted November 14, 2022 Asus Eee PC Winner! It is indeed the EeePC. Sorry for delayed response, I was on a break last week. 2
Ironside Posted November 14, 2022 Posted November 14, 2022 Is that one of those Classmate swivel tablets? It's not, but you're quite close!
Norphy Posted November 14, 2022 Posted November 14, 2022 It's not, but you're quite close! It looks familiar, a ruggedised netbook with an Atom CPU in there. I'm pretty sure the college I was working for had a load of them and they were shockingly bad but I can't remember its name.

Ironside Posted November 16, 2022 Posted November 16, 2022 (edited) StarWriter? If you mean the canon starwriter, nope! Edited November 16, 2022 by Ironside
simonw Posted November 16, 2022 Posted November 16, 2022 is it an old RM? I have an NL2 that looks similar on the underside
Dos_Box Posted November 16, 2022 Posted November 16, 2022 If you mean the canon starwriter, nope! Well, I'm stumped...
Ironside Posted November 16, 2022 Posted November 16, 2022 (edited) RM Mini NB120 So, I can't find a laptop by that model number, but googling it invariably leads to the image I used - yes, this is a RM Minibook 120! I had the utter misery of using one for my A-levels computer science as I have SEND. Cannot recommend. EDIT: Here's some photos. See the rubber handle on the back? Pull on it and it'd stick out and you could carry it like a weird purse. Edited November 16, 2022 by Ironside 2
bald_pig Posted November 16, 2022 Posted November 16, 2022 This is currently sitting in our office, can any of you recognise this?

I don't know that we got them from RM (May have been Stone) but yes, managing them was as awful as having to use them. Also do not recommend. bald_pig Posted November 16, 2022 Posted November 16, 2022 Does it work and what job does it do or did? It was found in a cupboard, and I hope it works as I'd like to use it

It is, but the brand wasn't originally owned by them
